You might look to see if the filler tube connects to a rubber coupler hose somewhere before the tank/ Then you can remove the spout and work on it on the bench.
Remember gas vapors are highly flammable so be careful.

Pulled all the interior out of my "new to me" 1990 Jimmy. Surprised to find zero rust anywhere! Putting sound deadening mat down and redoing the interior.

Did you buy those headlight bezels or make? I know a company makes something similar
They are cheapy Amazon buckets I drilled for the led turn signals and painted them.

It's a regular old 75/76 GMC grille that I painted black. It's hard to find them, but they are the only way to go on a 75 Jimmy.
