Lets Talk 1 ton Axles

Jesus tits! I looked for almost a year for that exact truck and ended up buying a 1996 because I couldn't ever find a K30 anything for less than $6000 and the one that was $6000 was a 350 powered crew cab with a flatbed and I didn't want a 350 or a flatbed. If I could find a K30 around here for less than $2000 that ran and drove I would buy it in a new york second but it ain't happenin.

Thats one I am going to look at tomorrow. Unfortunately it wounds like the rear has sold menaing I am going to buy one for 100 and build.

Unless I find one cheaper. A guy in Ft Collins want 3000 for a front and rear rebuilt, but open...

I have a 14 bolt with 4.56 gears for a $100. I will have to see...

PS lets go wheeling I am trying to find wheeling partners here... I have the big green 72 blazer and a red cj 7.

Hell yeah.I am almost done with my CJ/buggy.I saw your Blazer the other day.Looks good.I love them.
Why not upgrade your rear for now? Then just swap to 8 lug in front.Should get you by until you find a 60.

SO come to find out my kid told me you got a set for CHEAP!Nice.

PS. I guess your his teacher.:pimp:

I think this thread was one of them that got nuked...:dunno:

Anyways, like I said before, I pulled mine out of my crew cab and stuffed the 8 lug 44 in it's place... Sold the crew and made money off of it...:waytogo:

I also pulled the carrier and pinion housing with the 4:56s from the crew and put them in the Burb 14 bolt and stuffed the 4:10s that matched the 44 in the 1 ton 14b... Didn't have to redo perches...

The 3/4 ton stuff was given to me from a buddy... I made out like a bandit...

Moral of the story... It can be done for cheap, but you gotta hussle...

Yeah I am a teacher. Or at least try to be at times. I had the cheap set sold out from under me. the other guy got the money together faster. So Now I am on the look out again. Not sure if I will get it done this spring or not... We will see. I am thinking just getting new tires and figuring out how to lock up my front end in my jeep. It has the stock front, but am looking at a 44 for it. I am wanting to do something, not sure what.

I have been been trying to work things hard, but not working out yet. I am thinking about taking the dana 44 front and 12 bolt rear out of my blazer, swapping it to my jeep in a soa conversion, getting a set of a 60 front and a 14 bolt rear, building them and putting under my blazer, then selling my axles for the jeep. Just all in due time, I just have a problem waiting around I tend to want to get it done now. I will hold out for a great deal. I do have a 14 bolt rear ff un-built for $100.

Just keep the D44 front for now and convert it to 8 lug. Then swap in the 14bolt.Both the 3/4ton and 1 ton 14bolt will require moving the perches to fit in the 72 and older blazers.I do believe.

No idea about fitment on the older Blazers, but on the half cabs the 3/4 ton 14b is a bolt on as far as perch width... And the shock mounts are backward on the 1 ton 14 bolts... Just an FYI for other readers...

Spring hangers are the same (mounting width is different).

A 1 ton axle measures 40.5" (center to center) of spring perches. A 3/4 ton axle measures 42.5".

67 through 72 blazers spring mounting points are 40.5" wide. 73-91 blazers spring mounting points are 42.5" wide.

If you want to put a 1 ton axle in a 73-91, cut off spring perches and replace. If you want to put 3/4 ton axle in 67-72 blazer, cut off spring perches and replace.

3/4 ton axle is direct bolt in for 73-91. 1 ton is direct bolt in for 67-72.

perfectly explained:waytogo:

just did the swap on my '73 frame, did not realize there was a difference in pre '73 models

Huh... Didn't know the early years had the narrow frames...

Do the shocks mount the same as a 1 ton???

Nope, you still have to change the shock mount but the perches are the harder part.
By the way it's only the blazer.
The 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton trucks did have the 42.5" perch width.
