Lets talk fuel tank(s) for me...

no goofy electric pump sucking fuel from extra tank and dumping it in to the efi pump tank via a switch on the dash .

this was in 1989... interweb wasnt what it is today thus these things were not that thought of..

ok im getting a bonus in March and I need to get tanks.. im going to research more but I did want to keep the factory saddles but NJ laws state if you have a body lift (which I do not yet).. you need to build tubular protectors as they are on the outside of the frame and would be exposed.. stupid law...

so really leaning towards a single 32 or 40.. gonna see how hard that is to do but yeah mounted between frame rails and go from there...more to come in March!

if body lift just move them up were the tank bracket bolts to the frame .

but yes in the end if you can single 31 blazer or 40 gal suburban tank in back would be great . and just 1 filler .

I would love to get bigger tanks for my blazer. All I have seen that is direct is the 31 gallon option. Anyone have any idea of others?

When I replaced the saddle tanks in my truck I used AC/DELCO EP377 (MAX 30 PSI) in each tank because I kept the TBI, and added an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to it.

how did you handle the power to the pump as if you have 2 pumps then you dont want them both supplying fuel?

Since you need tanks now, get yourself at least 1 new saddle tank with the TBI baffles and drop your current sender in it. Then cap off the lines to the other tank or even remove it completely. That will keep you on the road without spending unnecessary money or having to fab up custom stuff. Then when you're ready to go EFI or the 8.1 all you need to do is drop in a new TBI sender unit with the high pressure pump. If 20 gallons isn't enough, then figure out how to rig up the other tank. But honestly I wouldn't worry about capacity since I mean come on, you live in Jersey, it's not like you pump your own gas. :flipoff7:

pump our own gas??? WTF!!! SUCKIT!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA

yeah im looking... what year tanks have the baffle? 87 right?

i dont mind the saddle tanks. Were in mudbog land here and not rock puncturing gas tank land... I do agree with you on one thing... were getting our tax return soon and I am buying BOTH thanks else I loose part of that money. Seems that $6k were getting gets gone some how and I wont see any of it so im planning on getting 2 tanks asap when monies in.

ill do what your saying by dropping my setup into BOTH newer tanks... and yes later decide when motor plan happens.

currently getting my 14b ff back together soon. $350 total price is cheap but still a tough pinch to bite considering I didnt expect it. Glad I got a R/P here... hah

The saddle tank pickups with TBI have the wiring harness setup so only the pump in the selected tank is running.

right id have to change my wiring, switch and selector to do that as well...
not in budget right now..

The ideal would be finding a donor truck but those don't come around every day.

well I'm leaning towards a 8.1L motor now so I am back on this. I need a tank and have the cash now (no I didn't call JG Wentworth :haha:)

so reading through the 8.1L thread, it is said that the fuel lines are not big enough on these dual tank selectors...

so my question now is this..

if I buy a 87 tank
87 fuel pump/float assembly - can I wire a on-off-on switch that will supply 12v to each pump individually?

so I would run the fuel lines into a T or Y and power only 1 pump?

first you need a sending unit with out pump on it . then get a pump for a 96c3500 350 vortec engine and clip it on your setup . this gets you plug and play and the 60psi range you need .

next have you checked rockauto for parts prices ? getting tank local might be best option as shipping big tank sucks .

cant use a tee or y fitting . the fuel has no way of knowing were its going . the system can over fill a tank and cause major leak problems.

in my trucks i just did driver side primary tank with pump in it . then pass side was extra tank and had a small pump as transfer to driver side with switch and BIG red led in dash to not let you forget your pumping fuel and over fill it .

rockauto =

spectra prem parts
tank = gm1c - 69.99
efi sender NO pump = fg05m - 53.79

acdelco ep381 pump = 57.89

231.64 to my upstate ny door with out discount code .

check vendor section here for discount code for rockauto also .

so the one I posted had a $60 price tag WITH a pump. Albeit not 60psi but remember I'm carb'd right now and not going 8.1 for some time. I can always change out the pump when I'm ready. This info you provide is very much appreciated.

forgot that I have a T setup that fuel doesn't go in the direction I WANT IT TO GO!!! LOL... right it will go both routes and fill.
I don't like the transfer idea but that is just me. No one is saying I have to run dual tanks as well. Truck barely sees any time out and NEVER even goes 1/2 tank while out. pavement pounding doesn't suck much fuel...
ill still think how to do this...

but from what I read in Larry's comment in his 8.1 thread is that the dual tank selectors don't have big enough lines thus why trying to figure out what would work. there has to be a bigger selector valve out there!!!!!

so this is $170 to my door...
comes with new straps, fuel pump/float assembly and tank... complete.. that maybe the best route. funny thing is all packaged together and shipping is $6 more... hah.. maybe due to weight but who knows..
https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=6322257&cc=1061660&jsn=604

then a side question...
I see this has a 2 plug wire harness and a ground. ground is ground... one other is hot and the other???
just curious...float level?

I'm thinking I can get the passenger side and keep my drivers for now. get this one in, wired, etc. as I then need high pressure lines AND a regulator which I don't have the side funds for yet... but can keep truck moving....

fyi that shows a right side sender unit and carb NON baffled tank in the parts break down . just incase you missed it .

Yeah contemplating passenger side since it is removed. I see 96 sender has threadded lines so high psi...but 96 is 25 gallon. Will that be accurate in 20g tank?

Like said i dont know and apprec help

only the 96 pump as i posted part# for . it clips in to the 87 sender unit and plugs directly in and works fine.

back on this.. my work gave me an amazon gift card and now im back on this hunt...

so if you look in my list
http://a.co/gvwsRMZ

it has a tank for a 1987 v20 ... 20g and fits either side
then has a passenger side and drivers side fuel pump/sending unit.

my few questions..
1. Are these for high pressure looking at the hose connections. Is high pressure threaded or special clip on slide style hoses like I had on my 96 camaro? or is there a different sending unit I need? I will have to run a regulator for now to cut pressure down for a carb... so I know these are not 60+psi and that is fine for now.
2. I see a 2 wire plug and a ground. I currently have a ground and 1 wire on my 78. I am guessing ground (duhhh) and 2 wires... 1 is for fuel pump power and other is for gauge?

if I bought 2 tanks and both pump/sending units, I could hook them back into my dual tank selector as these appear to be what I have now (3 hose - 2 back to dual tank solenoid and 1 as a vent? )

then it comes down to running a toggle switch (on/off/on) to trigger left tank or right tank for fuel pump?????
