ok, i have a delema that wont show its head for quite some time, but i would like to figure some of it out now. right now i have an 89 s10 blazer that is my trail rig. it currently has the stock 2.8 (TBI and it runs great) and a t5 manual. behind that i have a 231/241 doubler. now, i realize that someday the 2.8 will give up the ghost and i will need a motor. i figure it will just get a TBI 350 and i will call it a day. now, i have to figure out something for the trans. the stock t5 does not just bolt up to the 350, and even if it was that easy, its not like it would last long. i could use the bell from an f-body that used a t5 (a world class one), but that would clock the trans 20 something degrees and would effect the entire drivetrain. there is also a rare bell from a astro van with a 4.3 and a t-5, but it was like 1 or 2 years only and probably super hard to find, especially considering we are still talking about the little t5. i could step up to an NV3500 that would have come behind a 4.3 in the s-series and also full size trucks. but they are a 1 piece design and im not really convinced that is the best choice either. that leaves only two other options in my book, the NV4500 and the sm465. the NV4500 is probably worth more than the truck so that one is likely out. that leaves me with the sm465. i like this trans and i would like to use it if i could. its a little heavy compared to my current trans, but its a hell of a lot stronger, and it has a granny low and would boost my crawl to 220:1 verse the 135:1 im at now. i dont have the power to use 5th anyways now so its not like i would care about losing OD. the thing i have to figure out is how to make it work with my doubler setup that i will want to be keeping. now i think the 32 spline inputs from a 241 will fit the 231 case, and i could probably run it that way with the uber long 32 spline sm465, that is if length wasnt an issue. as is my rear driveshaft is less than 2 feet long. ive read little bits a pieces about a short 32 spline shaft for the 465, possibly by ORD. is this something that is available? what other options do i have? currently the 231 is 27 spline. is there some sort of 10 spline female to 27 spline male coupler i can use to get it to work?
