Why is is that on 07+ Chevy's you have to go WAY up to get a couple inch bigger tire? My 08 Yukon has 275/55/20 tires on it (31.9"/10.8"/20") factory. Yet all the kits say if I go to 4" lift I can only get 33"/12.5"s on it.....? And that's ONLY if I get different wheels with 4.5" or less back space.... 4" lift and new wheels to gain an inch taller and barely over an inch wider....??? Why is that?

simple = STUPID SQUARE CUT FENDER OPENING .

I tell lots of people don't think that 35 is going to clear as per the 6" lift kit directions on newer gm's in 1/2 ton mostly. going to need tweeks / clearance / mods to NOT rub .

don't do the 4" lift waste of time . go 6" same labor to install and few bucks more for kit .

I hate and will NOT install rough country lifts any more . cheep crap and they down grade hardware size on some stuff I have played with .

heck I have a full spring lift on my bench now from a guys truck with 5-6k miles if even that cause it rode so stiff and crappy . took that rough country out and will be hitting c-list here soon cheep .

got him some tuff country frt and oem rear springs with 4" flip . much better now.

if lift for newer ifs stuff zone is good budget brand ( bds lifts budget line ) done lots of them and love them .

What he said. kinda hard to put a peg in a square hole lol. My Tundra could fit 35s with a leveling kit. Now has Zone 5" with 35s. Back space has a lot to do with fitting tires.

I don't wanna go 6" because I like the lower look. Not really into more than 4" lift on anything really. Just kind of weighing the options with this one. Really if I could get to at least 34" without going more than 4" ID be happy. Just thought it was odd when I was looking at lifts and seen the recommended tire size. Makes no sense to me. And the "cutout" flares cut 3/4" off of the lower rear 6" of the opening.... Yeah, ... That's really "cutout" lol. What happened to the old days when a cutout flare allowed a bigger tire and you didn't need a 12" lift for 37"s lol

You also have to remember that wheel wells are tighter to the tire now to cut down on drag. Only way you're going bigger tires on the new truck w/out more lift is:hack:

if you can keep the tire skinny that would help a lot .

the normal bigger tire with fatter profile is the killer.

think old school like a 255/85/16 is just a tad under 34" tall but skinny .

I know some of the weird sizes these days do that . like a 295/75/16 is a 33.3 tall and 11.6 on a 8" wide rim . 275/70/18 is 33.2 tall and 11" wide on 8" rim . both these are bfg at/ko2 of there site specs.

just found a 34x10.50x17" on there site its 33.5 tall and 10.6 wide on 8.5 rim width . same bfg at/ko2

also ifs front tire stays in center up/down and only turns . unlike older leaf sprung that moves forward/back with spring /shackle movement.

Google the "Norcal fender mod". Little bit of cutting and shaping and bigger tires fit. I like my mudflaps so I stayed safe with 275/65R18's.

As everyone said it's the lower ride height and squarish fender openings. Go flex your front on something and turn your tires. Notice how close the tires get to the edge of the fender.

Plus side is we have like 2x the front suspension travel of the old torsion bar suspension.

my 08 denali is officially my DD now. so I may look into something for it yet. probably leave it stock though. sounds like too much messing around to get what I want. If I do anything ill go with the street truck look instead. I was slowly working on that with my sierra but I traded it for a van yesterday..... which the wife promptly claimed...:whistle: may have been my plan all along:D

that norcal mod is pretty slick... all I wanted was like 295/60/20's. (33.9/11.7) but I want to keep my wheels..... maybe I could with 4" lift, norcal mod and spacers...?? guess I have thinking to do on what direction I want to go

Go with a 33" or so and you could probably fit them with the leveling lift and Norcal.

Kinda makes me a bit angry with them styling the wheelwells like they do. You compare the new trucks w/ square openings to something like a late 90's land cruiser there's a huge diff in the wheelwell. You can fit 35's in them unlifted at all but they'll rub. 2.5" lift and no rubbing...

New Chevy wheelwells are kinda stupid. Look at this truck next door to us at work. This doesn't even look good to me.

I almost never see newer model trucks set up for anything other than posing - super high lifts with smallish tires and giant rims, low hanging stuff all over. Not sure why that is. A lot of new Jeep guys seem set up for trails. I almost took a picture of a Super Duty type in front of me one day with U-bolts hanging 6 inches below the axle...

Jeeps are one of the very few new vehicles that have 'large' wheelwells, so it doesn't take 6" of lift to put on 33's.

You can run one tire size larger without much fuss. I had the same stock size tires as you 275/55R20. I put on a 2.5" level kit and wanted to retain the mud flaps so I went with 275/60R20s. That calculates out to a 33/10.5. The tires cleared no problem but the truck rode a lot worse so I dropped down to a 2". The ride was better and barely harsher than stock and I didn't have to put blocks in the back to make it match as I would with the 2.5". As it sits my truck is completely level and I like the stance. A little more aggressive but subtle and I can still fit in parking garages.

Not bad.... That pic of the white truck is exactly what I hate... A foot and a half of space between the top of the tire and the top of the wheel opening and probably only has 4"- 6" of actual up travel. And tires way small for the lift.... Makes no sense. I may try that 2" level kit thing and see how it goes. I don't want to get too crazy with it really. It will currently do any wheeling I'm actually going to do anyway lol. Hate to say it but any lifting would all be poser look. Just my work truck and the wife's winter truck.
