I hope this is in the right section. I am a new K5 owner. I bought an 85 with a 350 crate engine, 3/4 ton axels and an 8" lift with 38.5 swampers. When i bought the truck it was getting dark i remember looking for a body lift and not seeing one everything was good. The next day i noticed that someone had put 2" blocks under the front springs. Im guessing it had a 6" suspension lift and wanted a couple more to fit the tires.
My question is how dangerous is this? I cant take the block out because the tires rub as it sits now and i dont have the money to buy new tires, dont really want to go smaller anyways. I would like to just get 10" or 12" springs front and back.
This truck has to my d/d, i know front lift blocks are a no-no, should i just put a body lift on it? As much as i hate to do that, i could get one cheap and at least get the blocks out. Or is it safe to drive for a little while so i can save up for springs?
Also i think ive read on here about someone on here who makes springs?
Thanks

Ditch the blocks. How is the body? Whould you feel bad trimming the fenders? That would probably get you enough clearance.

I believe blocks up front are actually illegal in some states and are potentially very dangerous due to various safety reasons, falling out under hard cornering or wheeling etc. Use the truck easily and gingerly till removed.
BTW, we had factory installed 2" blocks in front of a chevy dump truck we bought, granted its a bit different of an application than your Blazer but personally I wouldent have an issue driving it for a while.

get rid of those blocks as fast as you can and i wouldnt drive it until you do. it is highly unsafe! also i wouldnt put 10 inch springs if you want a decent ride. if you have a 6 inch now then maybe do some trimming and a body lift but you can get those tires to fit.
go to the "how will my truck look section with xx" above and check out how alot of guys are running their trucks. you will get some great ideas!

consider this. you could replace these 2" lift blocks w/ 1" lift zero-rates and then compensate with a 1" body lift. this will keep your ride as comfortable as 6" springs can be instead of 8" springs.

I would have to trim a lot of my fenders to get my tires to fit. They rub pretty bad as it is now. I dont really care about a rough ride with 10" or 12" springs. I do want to lift it a little more than it is now. And i would rather do all suspension lift and no body lift.

I'm surprised that 38.5's rub so much. I've got 38's on my blazer w/ 4" lift, and while I definitely had to trim alot - I wouldn't have guessed that I would've needed 6 more inches of lift to fit them without trimming.

care to post up a pic? i guess you'll need another 13 posts before you can do that. hmmm...

ok well i would do this, a 4 inch front 52 swap so it will give you about 8 or so inches up front then do a zero rate. then some slighly lifted 56 springs in the back maybe with a shackle flip plus a zero rate. then a body lift if you dont want to trim. the most expensive part will be the front because you would have to do crossover when you start off roading it. of course you could do this down the road and just do a body lift now but those huge springs wont flex much. it all depends on what you want to do with the truck

What do you intend to do with the truck? Street queen or mud bogger? You going for looks or actual performance off road? Are you opposed to trimming the back of the front fenders some?

Like Colby said.

1" zero rate, and a 1" body lift. best way to go. The 1" body lift is regarded as a good upgrade for clearance and general ease of working on the truck. It is not really tall enough to be considered a bad thing.

Trim the fenders to fit. An 8" lift should easily fit up to a 44" tire with trimming so your 38.5s should be able to work.

The tires with a little trimming would be fine now. They only rub when turning sharp. The blazer is going to be a daily driver for now and the near future. Also would like to be able to go play once ina while. I dont like to push it when wheeling my daily driver.

i wish u lived closer i would rade springs with u i have 8 in super lifts i put on and its to high dont get me wrong i like it on the street but when i get on a incline it feals alot diffrent than my 4 in lift and ihave alot more body lean.I havent even disconnected my sway bar yet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

O ya im runnen 35 inch bfg mudders with a 8 in lift in front and 6in in the rear no block and i still rub so its all about how far u push your truck

Zero rates and some longer shackles and a 1 or 2 inch body lift and your golden

A 2 inch block should be fine if your just puttin around on the street. I understand peoeple knockin the tards running 6 inch blocks up front but I know a few runnin 1-2 inch blocks up front. I hear everyone say they will fail has anyone actually see a front axle kick out a set of blocks?

Not many people have i'm sure. Because that kinda crap was hopefully phased out by the early mid 90's. Unless your a cheap, retarded, lazy-ass hillbilly that has no respect for the safety of others or yourself.

Before you go a rant about how just steppin out your front door is a risk. Yes I know. But lets try and get rid of all the stupid that we can. There is enough of it already.

I've seen a 2" block fail and its not pretty . it failed under breaking pressure blocks failed and spun the pinion up which in turn ripped loose the steering linkage . it was a nasty wreck but thankfully no one got hurt by the Inbred, mouth slobbering, fag from big ghey truck land.

Its so inexpensive to do it right why **** around with your safety and the safety of those around you. if you cant afford a couple hundred bucks to fix sh!t right then you may want to find another hobby

I wouldn't recommend anyone to get front blocks. I've never ran them. Did a 5inch in the back for many years. Just sayin if its in there and you need to drive the truck its not gonna fall apart on your first turn out of driveway. Just drive normal until you can get them out of there
