i am going to be installing a 4inch front and i need to know should i go hd or ez ride i will be putting a bumber on that my guess will weight at least 150lb with winch if not more should i go with hd or ez ride?

Buy a bit taller EZ ride spring and let it settle

Or buy the softer riding spring, and if it settles, put a zero rate ord whatchamathinger under the springs

What brand are you buying? Tough Country seems to be the fan fave and is what I have, but haven't ridden on yet

i want the 4 inch tough country ez ride but i am not sure how much they settle?

I installed Tuff Country 4" EZ rides in July 02, got 5 1/4" of lift over my worn springs. Been very happy with the ride and hasnt settled much either. Buy new greasable shackles from ORD while youre at it. If it sags too much install 1" Zero rate block from ORD. good luck /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I had a tough country 4" in my old 76. Only sagged 1/2" in front (blocks in rear) I ended up putting longer, greasable shackle's in front and had 5" over stock.

how long in inches in the typical front shock for a 4 inch lift?

How much will you be flexing it? Will you be using your swaybar? I ran 4" E-Z rides for a couple years with no loss in height. Then, I removed the swaybar for more serious off-roading and I quickly lost 1.5 inches. I now wish I had 6" E-Z rides. I would second the idea of 6" E-Z rides and let them settle.

but what is the length of a shock need for the front with 4 inch ezride and 33 inch tires? will 23.5 inch shocks work?

I only know one length = Use Ford towers and go as long as you can. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

still didnt awnser my question about the 23.5 inch shocks in the front with 4 inch ez rides?

Way too short with the Ford towers. Mine are going to be 30" long. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

w/o ford towers it is a dana 44 up front with stock shock mounts.

Measure it.

I wish I'd never wasted my money on cheesy stock mounts though. Could have had the Gabrials I got from AZ (G63468) and Ford towers for less total money expended!

i dont have the 4 inch springs in yet just oredered them and i am trying to figure all the little details out. the guy at shwabs said thos shocks should be long enough but i dont know if i trust those guys even though this guy has a crew cab chevy with 38's he should know what he is talking about but i just dont know. input on this would greatly be appreciated. thanx /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

If you take nothing from this post, take this:

FORD TOWERS ($30)
Gabriel shocks, G63438, 30" long, 12" travel ($20 each)

Total = $70 vs. $50 plus shipping for the other guy's shocks that are too short, use stock mounts, and suck ass anyway and don't have a lifetime warranty.

Definitely the poor man's long travel arrangement.

My 4" shocks measure 12.5" from the center of the bottom bolt to the weld on the top of the body. Usually the reccomended length will work for moderate use. If you pull the sway bar and flex a lot the shocks will become limiting tubes (for both compression and extension; ask me how I know /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif).

84_chevy_k10 what are the longest length on those gabriels you mentioned?

i didnt realize the ford towers were 30 bucks who sells them?

They're ABOUT 30". I think the book says 29.73 IIRC.

12.53" travel too, which puts them at 17.47 compressed if my cheesy math is correct.

All I know is that they're the longest ones I can find in the book that still mount in a useful way.

Now if they can be mounted upside down or not stands to be seen.

Ford sells an entire shock mounting bracket for $30, chevy sells the the shock bolts for $28 (sarcastic pricing).
