Getting ready to 4 link my rear. As it sits now i have 5"lift (4 suspension/1 body) sitting on 40's with 14bff rear end. Planning on links around 48" +/- in length. How much travel can i expect roughly from this set up? Probably going with uppers triangulated. And what's everyone using for coilover's for such a setup? (Brand, model, travel, etc,) looking for advice from real world experience...

I plan on eventually linking the front also. Figured i would do the rear and see how it goes first.

I like my ORI's...easy setup..one strut for everything

Ori's look good but a little out of my price range. Looking at some 2.5 Profender coilovers 16" travel. What's the consensus on them?

Dont forget to factor in air bumps, anti sway bars and limiting straps along with the coilovers..not to mention the additional springs till you find what rate works for your rig.. price out all that and your way over the cost of a set of ORIs

48” is really long. What are you building it for? Speed? That is close to trailing arm length

we were pulling 22" of wheel travel out of a 48" arm on the back with the 14" coilover mounted 1.5:1. it really depends how crazy your are getting. unless you plan on going very very fast, you will be fine with a 1:1 ratio, so shock off the top of the axle. If your keeping your rear seat, your pretty much stuck to a 1:1 unless you do a cantilever or mezzanine arm. ours was off a mezzanine.

Not building a race truck, more of a crawler/ trail rig. I have no problem running the coilover up through the floor. Elaborate on the 1.5:1 ratio. Is that uptravel to downtravel?

Shock is moved up on the control arm. The further you move it up the less travel the arm goes through. So you get more travel at the axle than the shock could provide if mounted on top of the axle

Basically you mount the shock on the lower link... It's a leverage thing. If you not going for speed just mount it off the axle and forget I said anything!!

Ok, it makes sense now. Slick trick but i don't think that's gonna be an issue in my application. That must multiply the compression and rebound rates a lot as you go further up the link with the mount....

This is all new to me so the learning curve is quite high concerning the geometry of it all.

Don't get too wrapped around the axle with getting perfect geometry. What is perfect on paper, often doesn't carry over to the truck because of fitment.

You can mount to upper link too. Lots of ultra 4 guys running upper trailing arms.

How do these different mounting points work out in reality in regards to the coilovers performance?

Geometry has been a hybrid of paper and actual measurements. Currently it sits as a rolling chassis with no body on it (body is on the trailer nearby) . I have appx 23in from top of axle to top of frame as it sits now (on leaf springs) and i plan on adjusting ride height up another couple inches. See my other thread on here where i posted my link calculator numbers for everyone's review and advice before mocking it up.
