Little bit of custom work to console

So, hopefully you guys like it. I'm more than happy with how it came out.

First up, the mount attached to an aluminum plate.

Next is it attached to the dash with 3M automotive double sided tape. You can see how it clears the a/c vent and stays low to the dash.

And how I will most likely run it, mounted in the horizontal position.

It clears the a/c vent in both positions and sticks out no further than the gauge part of the dash. Easy reach for driver and passenger. I can quickly pull the tablet from the Ram mount easily, or pull the entire mount leaving just the base for a clean look. Switches will be moved to the stock radio spot. And a volume knob added as switch #6.

Audio will work with any Bluetooth input.

still deciding on front door speakers (mounted in pocket area)
Polk DB10 sub

If/when I upgrade tablets (TAB 4 or similar), I can add a USB receiver and get FM radio, digital TV, and even a SDR receiver to monitor the entire freq range.
 
Pretty sure I can total the truck and it'll still be there. That 3M tape is stupid strong, I have a bunch on the top flat and a couple on the little bottom, most tab. By this afternoon when it warms up, you'll need to have a heat gun to peel it up. Same stuff that holds all the body molding and badging on modern car/trucks. I used a bunch for a light weight object.
 
3M makes some stuff called VHB that's really strong. Some mfg use it to bond body panels to cars now. If that's the stuff, the dash will give way before the glue.
 
I just realized I can use the flat part on top to mount a radar detector and a GoPro type camera. Life is good.
 
Got some more work done.............................................

First up a console for the trans hump, cut down and shortened. Fits between the floor heater and the transfer shifter now. Inside it will be an Alpine KTP-445U amplifier (pictured in front), a small relay and fuse center, a USB power hub, and the Bluetooth receiver. I can then run any Bluetooth media source into my sound system.

I haven't decided if I'm mounting my ham radio face plate on it or not, but not really that important. I could also do some gauges.
And the switch panel that's replacing my crap-tastic current radio. All switches leading to relays, first is momentary for air horns. Next three also go under hood to relays to various lights. Switch number five controls a relay in the new console running the amps, USB power hub, and Logitech Bluetooth receiver. Last little baby is a line level volume control, gotta keep a volume knob ya' know.

I mounted the switches into a old radio I ripped apart. Meaning, I can fully install the dash kit, and still remove the switches/housing without pulling the dash. I plan to install the new kit so I can pull the gauge cover without pulling the "radio" kit. Life is easier when you don't have to rip things apart just to work on something else.

I'd love to have a way to monitor or tweak my DynamicEFI system whenever I wanted. I posted on thirdgen asking for an Android interface. As it stands, you'd need a portable windows machine to make it work. Some time I'll see what it would cost to get a windows tablet for that purpose, plus audio, nav and everything else. Would be slick.
 
I have a dedicated laptop for that, but I agree IF they could do it in android it would be the crowning jewel of a tablet install. Basically whenever I wanna play with the EFI, I place the laptop in the passenger seat or have the wife drive while I "interface" with it.

Another thing I'd love to see some programmers do............................. a Bluetooth device with 8 to 16 analog inputs that a tablet can display and configure as a dash read-out. Configure the gauges kind of like the Torque app, totally user set able (including range to input ratio). Would work on every vehicle including motorcycles and utv's, hell even boats. Allowing a user to make a custom dash from any old tablet, for any vehicle. Leave the display setting open for customization. But until then I'll just pipe dream it.
 
Looks like you can get a windows 8.1 tablet for around $100. Not sure if it would run the EBL display or not.
 
Well, the little plastic housing did not work out. So I trashed it.
Most of the parts are in, just waiting for some USB cable ends and some misc stuff. Got a panel built out of a cutting board and installed the components and mostly wired up.

Still going to mount it in front of the transfer case shifter. Came out pretty clean, not too fancy (I've gone overboard before on car stereo stuff), lots of utility.

I've got a 92 Blazer and I'm upgrading my interior. I recently picked up two power leather seats and a console from a wrecked 2006 2500. Seats are in and I'm working on getting the console fitted, wired in and customized.
I'm gonna have to steal a few of your ideas, man. I had pretty much come to the conclusion of using the old factory stereo spot for switches and ....(to be determined).
Anyway, sorry for rambling on. Kudos on creativity and craftsmanship! Thank you very much for sharing!

Do you have pics of the lower console by the floor heater? Pic doesnt work any more.

Also love what you did with the console lid, thats awesome! Hows it holding up?
 
I abandoned the one by the floor heater, just didn't fit well and attaching was problematic. The lid mods is still working great, use it pretty much every time I'm in the truck. The bigger cup holders are very helpful also.
