What do you guys think pull the whole drivetrain or just the engine? I have always pulled the engine itself but I was thinking that it would be easier to pull the whole thing and assemble it on the ground.
In my opinion,.............There's alot of variables. How tall is your rig, how tall of engine hoist do you have, what kinda trans/xfer case do you have, are you willing to pull the grill, radiator and support out of the truck, ect.ect.ect.
The blazer is lifted 6 inches 35 inch tires And I have always pulled the radiator when removing a engine because of fear of punching throgh it. I also have a forklift at my disposal.
In my opinion with the fork lift and you don't mind pulling the radiator and CORE SUPPORT, pull it as one complete assy, as long as the building your doing this in has enough ceiling hiegth. Make sure you take the time to find out where to hook up the chain's because of C/G.
I always do each seperately. I haven't ever taken the core support out. Just radiator, shroud etc.
Just seems easier to handle. I did pull a motor and tranny out of a station wagon together years ago and I had a heck of time getting the tranny up high enough to clear the core support. Took rims and tires off and dropped it as low as I could and still had to support the tailshaft to clear. So I never did it that way again.
Also I like to keep the weight down for ease of movement and stress on tranny case
