Little Input + 12V Cummins Swap

Yeah man, there you go... What it all boils down to is priorities.. I see you like to wheel, thats a good priority! You gotta do what you gotta do... I always tell myself there will be another one.....

i was actually trying to sell the k5 for a while. but i have almost $20k into it plus labor and might be able to get $5k for it, and now the engine is knockin'. it has been extremely reliable, on road and off. it is also really straight and not rusty.
so after i sell the trans am and the crew cab. i'm going to look for a c30 with a 454/465 combo and hydraboost to swap into the k5. ( i actually already had all this stuff but sold it to buy the crew)
then i'm hacking the top off, boatsiding it, and exo caging the rear quarter panels and building a big ass rear bumper with a hitch to tow my rubicon with.
then later when i'm not so poor, maybe get a 81'-85' dodge crew cab, and swap a cummins into it.
if i can sell the trans am first, i'm keepin the crew cab

just out of curiosity what does a blazer look like with 20k of parts into it. That musta been a pro rock crawler or something

Check page 2 of this thread.... It's a nice rig, aestetically it dosent look like 20k but everything we do adds up fast, espescially if you add unsprung mechanical whatnots...

$20k doesnt get ya sh*t. thats the problem. if i had it to do again i would buy an already built rig and modify it to my tastes. way cheaper.
dana 60 + rebuild= $2500
14 bolt + rebuild = $700
steering=$1000
suspension=$1000
driveshafts and yokes=$1200
doubler with all the goodies =$2300
thats almost 10k. not to mention the trans,winch,bumpers interior ect..
it adds up really fast. and i didnt spend any money on labor. if i didnt do it myself it would be double the cost, and i wouldn't be on this great site. but thats another story of built not bought

jeez talk about overkill :haha:. you gonna be at blazerfest? Would love to see that SOB in action

Nice truck....But I HATE that single head light grill on the V30/3500's. Butt fugly. Barf.

Yeah, I agree and it dosent need that hood or visor + I hate rollpans :grind: makes the truck look totally sissy and not functional....But Its a clean slate, ditch the hood, rollpan, visor. Add, winch bumper, black beadlocks,black tool box, rear bumper....

did i miss somthin here? roll pan? visor?

Yeah, I totally screwed up... I found an ad for a 84 or 85 mint, mint, mint Dodge crew cab all original, under 100k awesome that I wanted you to see so I posted it, or I thought I did. I ended up posting a pic of a rather nice v30 srw that I found as well so there was a conversation about that but it didnt make any sence because I quoted something you said about a dodge:screwy:...Sorry, but I'll find it again because it was pretty sick...

well that makes more sense! i do have a sweet spot for old dodge fo doors.
i was thinkin, buy an 82'-85', then buy a 91'-93 2wd cummins. and swap the engine, and front clip to make a factory 91-93 crew cab cummins.

thats weird that it would have a divorced transfercase. if it actually does,
it should be married. but nice truck. be nicer with a 4speed.

Afternoon fellas, I'm gunna run 12 bolt hummer beadlocks w the goodyear 37's. I'll swap the front over to dually hubs... What is the popular spacer for the rear if you keep the 67" 14bolt, I dont want to swap rear ends and I dont want to run aluminum spacers of 400 dollar steep spacers.... Whats everybody using to get close or match the 77" front wms to wms?

i think that either an axle swap, or a spacer are the only options.
drw axle with srw hubs i think is the way to go.
maybe watch ebay for some spacers, save some money .
the garage might get better traffic on this subject.

Slowly allocating stuff, sold 60 and 14 bolt from m1008, couldnt resist, got 7 times what I payed for um... but!...Found a m1028 insted and bought it last week so back on track now.. 12 bolts w 37 are on their way from Trailworthy Fab, got some zero rates, hubcentric/wheelcentric spacers, box brace, ubolt kits, kingpin rebuild kit.....need shox and brake lines...and maybe some Xover steering (any threads on building your own on here?) Now thinking of some new 4" front springs and 4" blocks; mine are totally W'd... I've heard that Rough Country springs are...well....Rough.... but havent heard from someone w a BBC yet, only Blazer drivers...

I'm not sure if Rough Country has changed at all, but all the trucks I've ever ridden in or driven with their springs were really rough riding. It's like the spring rates were for a dump truck or something. Really harsh. It's been a while though. I know they've revamped a lot of their product line over the past couple of years. I don't know how current/accurate it is, but in the technical articles section of the ck5 homepage has a table that shows the different manufacturers' spring rates so you can at least get some idea of how they're going to ride on your vehicle. I would reccomend Tuff Country EZ Rides or HD springs. I have the EZ Rides and they ride quite well on and off road.

No, it's a shortbed half ton truck (K1500) with an SBC. It has about 175-200 pounds of bumper and winch in the front though. The EZ Rides did sag a little (about 1") after they had been on for about two years and I added those accessories, so I guess I should have gone with the HDs, but I didn't have the bumper/winch combo when I ordered the springs.

A lot of guys on this forum like BDS springs too. They say they're the best you can get without having someone like Deaver or Alcan make you some custom spring packs. They cost a lot though.

Cool, yeah thats y I asked about the Rough Countrys indirectily applied to a BBC truck. I'm on a budget like everyone else.. I figured someone w a BB might have something to say... Over on Pirate there is a guy advertising RC for some good deals.... The search continues....
