Little Input + 12V Cummins Swap

well.... atleast you could get somthing done.
This is true, progress...
Three kings day proved to be very fruitful.. I managed to get a few items at the Arab auto parts store because my rockauto order still hasen't shown up, I really wanted to get the front end together today so I bought a right TRE and sleeve, some LS additive, rags, brake clean...... I think I got started around 9:30-10 and I finnished around dark but I got-er-done.... I think the zero rate makes a huge difference in apperance and w the 1" it's no where close the the rear of the 1/4 but it dose have slight interference w the front. I'm going to trim it very slightly for now untill I fab up a front bumper. I've got extended brake lines that will have to go on this weekend, and I'll install new pads when my rockauto order gets here.

Looks awesome bro!:thumb: Did you decide to go with 1" or 1.5" forward? I guess the anti-sway bar is history, huh? I hope it will drive okay with the shorter drag link.

Hey Andy, I decided to go 1" initially and that turns out to be where I like it, but I would def go 1.5" w bigger tires. I would say if I moved it 1.5" and planed on wheeling the thing I'd have to start looking at the front driveshaft and steering... I really think I can retain the sway bar w a set of adaptor plates to offset the frame mounting point. I'm gunna mock it up to check the offset. I bet that sway bar helps a little with the dreaded DW:zombie3:
I ended up cutting about a 1/2" out of the front TRE on the drag link so I removed material from both ends. The drop looks ok, a little lower in the rear. I had a cj7 when I was younger that had bump steer bad; I hope I don't have it now... I'll try to get the rear axle in on Sat.

I hurried home after work today and got the rear axle broken down and almost had it out untill I got to the u-bolts..... THEY ARE ON THERE!! I've got to cut them off 2morrow. I kinda pondered how I was going to dissassemble the one under the truck and I decided it would work out good if I pulled the drums, individual lines, and brakes-w-backing plates off so I could just bolt um up to the other axle, I know my ebrake and brakes were working and I have no idea what kind of carnage is inside the drums of the other axle, + i'm going to disks as soon as possible... I was gunna use a cutting wheel on my 4 1/2" grinder but the grass is so dry there and soaked w various petrolium products that I didnt dare w/out a fire extinguisher on hand, so I called it quits for the night....

Holy shi!... I thrashed on this mother today.... The Glenlevit is woking now... I still have to do an alingnment 2morrow and do the final torque on the ubolts... Insted of the zero rate in the rear I decided to add two leafs because it measured to be less lift than the front but I ****e! myself and it's a little higher in the rear now, not what I wanted.... Oh my achin back.... I'll order 4 more u bolts and lower the rear next week. I took the pix this evening so their not so good but I'll add more 2morro...

damn that looks good. good progress. how do you like the gears?
Good morning, thanks I appreciate the words.. I haven't driven it on the street yet because I want to do an alingnment and install the new brake lines this am but in the driveway it feels good. It acutally feels like it's got good torque....We'll see...

After wrenching all day yesterday I was really tired, my buddy Tony showed up just in time to watch me missread the torque wrench and proceed to strip out 3 axle flange bolt holes in the hub :doah:...I just picked up another one of the two drum/hub assemblies I had and used that...
After that minor setback we got everything together enough to turn the truck around for this am... I didnt get much sleep, I went to bed around 2 and got up around 5.. The minute my eyes opend it was game on... I grabbed a cup of coffee and hit the ground runnin.. The list today was, install new front brake lines/bleed brakes, install new pads, torque front wheel spacers, alignment, cut sheet metal, torque front u-bolts, and grab some crush washers from the auto parts store( I had to reuse the old ones, new ones didn't come in the box)... Everything went pretty smooth and I didnt run into any real big problems.. When I initally set up the TR I guess I got it pretty close, Ton and I measured 3/4" of toe..I was gunna adjust it to 1/4" to start with but I decided to leave it like that for the maden voyage.. I trimmed the "inner fangs" off the front of the quarters which seemed to work great.. I had everything done except brake bleeding b4 Ton showed up around 10. I put the truck on an angle to get the gear oil down the tubes and onto the berrings a couple times b4 we went down the road.. She goes pretty good, I cant tell quite how good the gearing/tire set up is for acceleration quiet yet because I have a clogged fuel pick up sock and I need to drop the tank next weekend but it goes real good, smooth, quiet, and strait.. We adjusted the air pressure down to 40 front and 35 rear, it's nice and soft like that.. I didn't have the slightest hint of bumpsteer or DW... We did however determine that my sector shaft has some play and my steering block wasn't tight enough.. I'm gunna order a steering box this week, not quite time for crossover yet.. So here you go, I'm happy w the results and I really like the way it truned out... We went over to Ton's house to bleed all the crap brake fluid out of my system and tighten up the steering block.. Them we moved on to the next project, messin w Ton's header bolts... I just noticed in the side on pic the rear tire looks real small compaired to the front, that was because it had like 20 less pounds in it....

Looks good man.

Done the XJ steering mod and do you have an ORD box brace? Definitely worth it.

That Bronco Ton's?

Thanks man.. I haven't gotten around to the XJ shaft yet, it's right down the road and the owner Ludi said I could have it. I just wanted to get the big stuff out of the way first... I do have an ORD bolt in brace that will go in this weekend hopefully, I'm gunna order a new stock steering box because my sector shaft is kinda weezed so I'll do everythng at once... Ludi gave me a 2wd box as well so I'm still gathering parts for the crossover, I'll post a pic of my clearence to show you what kind of distance I'm working with between the frame and leef springs. And....for anybody thats curious 4.56's turn 37's ok with the 454/th400 combo, I do have an fuel pick up issue but if I had to choose I'd go at least 4.88's...

So random question but how common are traditional American vehicles there? Junkyards you're able to visit and scavenge from or everything has to come from overseas and/or you're looking for that one guy with an older truck in his backyard?

I was there in '96 on vacation and don't remember much in the way of big American trucks and cars. Then again I was there for 3 days.

Yeah, valid question. Since it's a US territory the majority of vehicles are in fact american (US market, no grey market) cars and trucks as a matter of fact it's a total rarity to see anything else. Years ago (within the last 10-15) there were a group of guys trying to slide in euro stuff out of the BVI's but that got squashed...Someone made some bad deal and they were eventually exposed and shut down.. There are Ford, Dodge/Jeep, GM, Toyota, Nissan dealers here and have been for quite some time, since the 60's give or take...? When Leon "Hess" started the refinery down here the support systems started to develope with it... I can find just about anything I need for my truck down here if I look hard enough.. Lots of rust though..As a matter of fact my truck is taking it hard, the drivers side rear door has started to rust from the inside out down on the back lower corner and I can see bubbles on the outside...I hate rust!!! but I'm not a body man, I'm a buy a used door man... I should prob shoot the underside w some parafin based undercoat sooner rather than later... I gave her a wash today and took up on the u bolts and studs..The rear u bolts needed it.. I'm not to happy with this steering block, maybe I'll order a dropped draglink for the time being untill I go crossover..? What do you guys think? Pic of her w a bath...

Heard bad things about the steering blocks failing. I'd personally go for the dropped drag link and/or dropped pitman arm.

Thanks for answering my questions on the automobiles. I do remember we went on a bike tour up some mountain and right off the side of the road was someone's house and just about bursting out of the driveway and the foliage was a brand new late body style Ford Bronco. Seemed a bit out of place but cool none-the-less.

Nice. He a local or a mainlander like you? Seems kinda built for the Island life.
Any wheeling to speak of?

I wouldnt spend the money on a stock box if you already have a 2wd box. Get a dropped pitman arm for the 2wd box and just position it for the stock steering draglink. Since the sector shaft is splined all around you can index it to whatever you want.

That way you dont have to waste money on a box, adn you get the 2wd one in there so you are ready for crossover

Real good idea dude... I hadn't considered that... Thanks!
