I'm so confused.

First off no, I'm not going to build/upgrade the headlight harness myself. Me + wiring = fail/fire. At $30 I can afford to buy LMC's kit.

LMC says for the 89-91 trucks with the four rectangular headlights like mine that you can only run their Eurolights. Anyone know why? I'm thinking about doing that conversion anyways but uhm, just wondering why they say that for these years only but not for the other trucks.

Okay, wtf is a Eurolight? Xenon...that's the gas in them, right? Anybody know where else to get this stuff other than LMC? Sometimes their prices seem a bit high.

Lastly, in my '92 Blazer there was a way to convert the headlights so the low beams came on when the high beams were turned on. How do you do that with these trucks? Same Painless/Summit kit?

I've always know euro lights to be tails. They are clear covers with smaller red covers inside over the bulbs.

Idk if theres a such thing as euro headlight though.

And yes xenon is the gas in the bulb.

I used LMC. I don't know what euro is either. Because they run directly off the alt, they put out a Lot more light. I was going to fix it where all 4 came on for Hi, but don't really see the need for it. I spent some time aiming them correctly and I still get "dimmit dammit" flashes from cars some distance off. I'll show them the Hi. When they are off, the Hi look blue and the low look clear (euro?). The bulbs are available at parts stores, but I haven't had to change mine out yet so I don't know if there's an issue. Fwiw, I have a 200A Wrangler Alt. in my 89 Jimmy.

i believe what they are calling "Euro" are the replacement headlight housings, that replace the all glass, sealed beam headlights for those plastic housing units that take the screw in replacement bulbs that go in the back of the housing.

For the "Euro" look, they have the clear or slightly flutted lens and usually a diamond cut pattern reflector backside.

I would imagine they say you can only use those headlights with the wiring harmess, because the "9000 series" replacement bulbs use a totally different style of plug.

Gotcha.

The thing is though, you'd think it would be the same way with the older square lights too but they don't have that proviso.

The LMC harness should work. You may just need to splice in the pig-tails on the light side. I did the harness w/ their head-light/high beam retrofit. The combination works well and looks better than stock.

Yeah, I actually found them earlier today. Which bulbs did you go with? They seem to have a sale on right now and the Yellow and blue/white ones are the same price plus free shipping and $10 off your order.

I used the LMC harness and the LMC H4 type lamps (nice to get rid of sealed beams). Re-aimed and they were very nice compared to stock.

I then put a diode pointing from the factory harness "hot" for the brights to the factory harness "hot" for the low beams (this setup is easy and clean in my opinion but you could accomplish it with another relay too).

MUCH, MUCH better with the low beams on when the brights are selected in my opinion.

The LMC harness is a little long for my setup... maybe I'll shorten it some day... or not.

That sounds like what the Summit/Painless dealy I had on my '92 did.

Would like to actually be able to see what's in front of me and not just warn people I'm trundling along.

I give Ford credit. The headlights on my '96 Ranger were BRIGHT. You really could see with them. Bone stock and I was always getting the aforementioned "dimmit dammit" flashes even with the lows on.

Then I got Big Ugly...

...straight up late 60's illumination technology...oy...

these are great upgrade. :Di got the lenses on ebay for 9.99 a pair and bulbs that were white not the freaking blue(had to search for white tent only) but the white is brighter they were 90/110 and is awsome. all on ebay. but i did get the wire harness from lmc and its deffinitly a great upgrade. everything just plugs in and two wire go to you batt. so its easy and probably on of my top 5 upgrade. :D:D:D:D

Yeah, lots of good info there.

Think I'm going to go with the LMC harness, Eurolamps' conversions, and then eventually do the Summit or Painless conversion so the lows stay on with the high beams.

Seems like Eurolamps' prices are better than LMC's right now. Sale on through the end of the month.

Yeah, thats what I hate about having a company truck, I go from 08 bright as hell lights to the dim sealed beams....but once I get my Hellas going that shouldn't be an issue anymore.

Let me know if you get your low beams to kick on with your high beams and how much of a difference it makes. My K10 and C10 kick on like that and I like it alot, Just wondering if its worth the hassel in the K5.

On my '92 it was basically just a matter of joining the two wires. I think there was a relay involved but don't remember. Just made sure when the power went to the highs it also got routed to the lows.

I'm thinking these can't be much different, especially since the 89-91 V series headlights are pretty much the same as the 88-91 C/K series.

sorry for the hijack..but stupid noob question. These trucks didn't come with the high's stayin on when the lows were on? When I bought mine, all four stay on and one of my buddy's truck stays on also. I guess the PO did this conversion?

Or am I an idiot and we're talking about the single headlight style and not the dual headlights. :doah:

89-91 K5's, Suburbans, and V-series trucks went to the same sorta front end with the four small rectangular sealed beam lights on top. It's a popular swap, or used to be. That said, yes, on these particular trucks the lows go off when the highs come on.
