I have a 2012 GMC 2500. I'm looking to get a tuner/code reader for it. What does the forum recommend? I don't know hardly anything about what's good and what's bad. I just want to get a little better mileage. I do not want to hot rod it and burn the motor or trans

But it's so fun to race mustangs at stoplights and make them look slow when you have 35s and a lumber rack... and still get 16mpg in the hills and 22mpg on the highway.

Haha. I bet, what is done to your dodge?

EFI is great but requires a PC to read codes. If you just want a code reader I suggest getting a bluetooth odb2 adapter and use an app on your phone. For tuning EFI is king, but comes with a price tag. Alot of the guys have been going to the edge insite cts for extra gauges, and it can read DTC, and sensors in realtime. Have you deleted the truck yet? There are not to many companies that do emission tuning.

I've seen those pop up a bit and wasn't sure if they were good or not. I haven't done the def delete because I have to smog every 2 years

My dodge has some transmission upgrades, 4 inch exhaust to my hollow cat then 5 inch, new air box and intake horn, smarty tuner/reader, and a few other small things. But it's an 05 before all the emissions nonsense.

I have a buddy with a duramax that runs an edge tuner that he loves, but his is an 02 which also doesn't have emissions junk. If the edge is still a popular set up with the 2012s, I think it seems pretty sweet.

I don't have a diesel pickup but a big rig, and I deal with the same issues.
I love my 2001 with no emissions and no problems.
My 2012 is a nightmare with the def system giving me trouble every couple of months.
And my 2001 gets better mileage too

The edge tunes have come along way, but the insite is just a code reader, and give you extra gauges plus an egt probe input.

I have that same truck (looks identical) that I bought new. And I've run the Edge Juice/Attitude since not too long after I bought it. I always wanted to add at least an upgraded TC, but never did. Just keep it to level 4 or lower, configure EGT cut-out at 1300*F and tell it to defuel on upper gear shifts. And set "low boost fueling" depending on preference/tolerance for max-perf/smoke. Pulls real nice with 35" tires on Lvl 4. Towed the truggy I used to run all over the SW with ease on LVL 2 (Towing). Or select LVL 1 for best mileage. All at the touch of a button from the driver's seat. And I can make it "stock" (easily passing any emissions test or inspection) by just unplugging the "man in the middle" box and reconnecting the factory plugs. Best truck I've ever owned.

Just saw this. I recently had DEF issues with my 2012 LML 2500HD. Dealership dicked me around for a while and didn't want to cover it under warranty even though the truck only had 42,000 miles. So I did a full delete. Alligator performance has some nice packages. Did PPEI Kory Willis 5 position tune with shift on the fly and did his trans tune as well. Flow prow 4" exhaust with muffler. And Edge Insight CTS 2 for my gauges and EGT probe. Was not cheap (over $2K) but I love it. Truck is a totally different animal. 1-2 MPG better all around and TONS more power. EGTs seem a bit high when pulling big hills with a trailer but I believe it is really due to where the EGT probe has to be mounted right in the flow path of Cylinder #8 on the LMLs. Post Turbo EGTs are still good. Still do not have a lift pump so I can only run levels 1-3 and 3 is awesome. Side note the muffler that came with my flow pro 4" does drone when towing but is not bad for normal driving. Will probably look into a bigger one to reduce some drone. Oh and you can read codes with the Autocal or EZ Lync tuning that Kory offers. Let me know if you have any other questions be happy to answer them.

I really wish they made a performance exhaust that was as quiet as factory.
