Just wondering if anyone here has had any problems with there lock rights?

I put one in my Beaumont(chevelle) back in July. I had problems with it disengaging both tires under hard acceleration/burn outs/launches etc. Did some more checking, checked the clearances as per the instructions. Everything checked out and was in spec. So I pulled the locker out and noticed severe where one the inside of the carrier where the side gears slide in. So I got another rear end with a mint carrier. I basically rebuilt it drum to drum. At that point the car was hardly driven, the locker was still in great shape.

With about a hundred miles on the diff, the locker performance started to fade significantly. It would only lock one side some times, than gradually got to where it would just slip under very little load.

Also, due to the harshness of the locker slipping it has chipped the pockets where the springs/ shear pins go quite severely. I will load some pics up right now of it.

So I started researching about it, and have come up with this. Its in the locker itself for whatever reason. I have found several threads about guys rounding the teeth off just like mine has. They than sent the locker in for warranty, and put another one in and never had problems.

I contacted Richmond when I first had problems with it, the guy I talked to didnt really have much to say. I plan to call in the morning and see if I cant send this paper weight back to them for warranty.

So long story short wondering if anyone has some insight/ experience with lock right problems?

Hope my story isnt to confusing :haha:

On the last pick its hard to tell, but there is a small groove from the couple pressing against the cross pin. Funny thing is its only worn into the one coupler.

Pretty much what you have described, the teeth get rounded off mostly on the side of forward movement when locking into place. I have heard of a few guys locally swapping the locking teeth side to side, so it changes the wearing on them, but this too is only temporary as eventually you'll still have to either get new ones, or buy a whole new unit.

I have one in the front of my Burb, but have not had any problems with it, mainly because it doesn't get used much. BUT, I do have a friend who had problems with them in the rear diff, randomly locking and unlocking while driving down the road, causing jolting of the drivetrain and an overall uneasy feeling with them.

Yeah lockrite really arent great for the road. Theyre a good solution for an affordable front locker but I wouldnt put one in the back of a truck again after having 2 rigs with them in the back.

No way in hell you could convince me to put one in a car.

I put one in my rear once, just once. It wasn't a Lockright it was a detroit EZ locker. They are the same thing.
It slipped & randomly locked & unlocked so bad i couldn't drive it. I returned that POS & paid the difference for the full size Detroit locker and had no problems since. (except a few broken axles ) Worth every penny.

Recently I put in the Richmond LockRight in the front. I was skeptical because of what happened with the rear. I took my time and measured the tolerances very carefully.
Then I hit the trails hard. The front locker never slipped, I didn't hear it click or ratchet all day.And I was in 4x ALL day. I had all kinds of traction. I was impressed. Not only did I not fock up the installation; it performed awesome.

Im going ARB rear on my rig... I have no desire to drive around town with any sort of locker...

Put a lockright in my dana 60, it works great. Also put a no slip in the rear of a 97 Sierra I had and it worked great.

This one I just dont know about. Today I decided to put it back in but everything opposite of how it was. It seems to work fine. Winters just around the corner here, so not much good weather for driving it anways.

Also the car does have some wheel hop, so trac bars and good shocks will be in the works as well. Im starting to believe that is what is causing it to act/ wear funny.
