Whats goin on fellas, I plan on installing the powertraxx lock right on friday into a 10 bolt rear.. Anything to really look out for, or any tips.. I've heard i'll have to pull the wheels and drums, while other ppl say I wont which is true? I know I'k have to:
Pull the rear diff cover
Unbolt the pinion shaft
Take out pinion shaft
Remove spider gears
Tap axles inward, C clips will fall out, remove them
remove washers from side gears..

i've got the actual removing the old carrier down, the only thing looking somewhat confusing is putting the new lockright in, Any help is VERY MUCH appreciated, I cant wait to get this thing going!

I have done it with the wheels and drums on, though it isn't much effort to take them off.

i did mine a few months ago, took the wheels and drums off cause it wasn't that big of a deal. it's easier to get the c clips back in if you're gonna be doing this alone without having the extra weight on the other end. i followed the instructions that came with it and didn't have a problem. done in two hours if that. the only tricky part for me was getting the last half of the locker in, they suggested making a little tool out of a coat hanger, which i did. took my time, did everything right, it was a fun job. made a huge difference on the trail, can't imagine not having a locker now

alright guys its coming together, I really like to be very well prepared before i get too deep into something. I'm sure I can get this done.. Keep the good info coming.. Like I said the install does look a little confusing still.. I got that you put the couplers with washers behind them first.. and then the drivers, but i'm kinda concerned about the little springs and shear pins, not sure how thats working..

i did the same, looked up all the info i could before tearing into the diff, even after reading the manual and reading all the info on here i still wasn't totally clear on things. it all makes sense once you get into it though. the pins and springs were easy, and no it doesn't matter what gears you have, as long as you have an open diff

Thanks a lot dude! Its good to know I'm not the only one a little confused about it, also great to know I can still do it with my gears.. And I'm guessing yours came together just fine..

After you have the Lockrite installed you need to check the gap. If it opens up to more than 3/16" you will end up with problems. I learned about this the hard way. There should be some sort of shim tool in the kit for you to measure the gap.

yeah i had never even taken a diff cover off before so i was a little hesitant at first. the instructions left me a little confused but once i got into it i was fine, just followed them step by step. have a coathanger or bailing wire ready and a little grease (keeps the pins and spring together while you're dopping them in).

i go out wheeling most weekends and haven't had a single problem. it's the best investment i made in the truck for off road traction (though it took a little bit getting used to the on road manners)

crazy question. you got a open diff now ? as the kit only works in open diff. not posi/gov-lok/limited slip.

aww cmon lol I didnt know you guys were gonna want pics.. I'm all done now, I goofed off, and had to walk to the parts store twice, (once for a 6point socket, definitley not gonna strip out that cross shaft pin bolt, and some more rtv to seal up the rear cover) I havent added any fluid yet, letting the gasket sit for a bit, while I go work out, then when I come back I'll add some fluid and go for a test drive..remind me to add that fluid before I take off please!!
