First, I'd like to thank you for reading yet another thread about lockers. I have been doing my search (on this forum and others) and I am going blind reading all the thoughts and opinions.

I currently have a cherry 91 FSB, stock 350 TBI (soon to be 350 Ram Jet or ZZ4), 700-R4, NP 241 with stock GM Coprorate 10 Bolts with 1.28 dia and 30 splines front and rear. Open diff in the front. Present mods are 4 inch suspension lift (reverse shackle, new springs/no blocks), 35 inch BFG's, Eaton Posi LSD in the rear and manual locking hubs up front. I have 4.56 Yukon gears in front and rear.

My off roading is VERY limited. No rock crawling, no mud bogging, etc. It's just too nice of a truck to beat it up. (I use my ATV for the fun stuff). It is my daily driver (has 140 k miles) and I really go easy with the skinny pedal on the right. My 4x4 is limited to the light hunting road and occasional mud puddle. My biggest 4x4 need is the fact that I use this FSB to tow my large 23' boat on the weekends to the local boat ramps. The ramps here can get really slick with slime and some are quite steep. There are times I wish my front was locked in some fashion.

Based on what I have searched, the fact I am running stock GM 10 bolts with 35 inch tires can be considered dicey... just a mater of time before I grenade a front locker(if I had one) or axle.

My question is this.... is this still a valid concern considering I have manual locking hubs ? I really want to get a locker up front.

Considering the occasional locker need and expected use (like 2x a month on the boat ramp), I dont want to go the expense of a selectable driver operated locker. My first choice is a lunchbox locker, then the next would be a full automatic locker. I have no intention of swapping out to beefier axles at this time (forthcoming new engine already taking a big bite out of my wallet).

I appreciate all comments..the good, the bad and the ugly. I know I haven't posted much on here, so I have put on my flame proof suit !

Thank you.

if you are very easy with it and really only use it for the boat ram
I don't see why you can't throw a lunchbox in there. Just keep that in mind when you hotdog in 4x4. I'd spend the $18x2 for some new Ujoints as well.

Gotta ask...you're in low right?

Just seems like with soft rubber muds, 4.56's, a LS in the rear, 1st in a TH700R4, and low gear you should be able to pull anything a K5 can pull out.

I'd be inclined to put a locker in the rear. Not a fan of limited slips myself.

Yes, I'm in low. Pulling is not the issue... it's the slimey ramps. The LSD in the rear was already there when I bought the truck. I probably would have thrown a locker in there if it was an open diff but the LSD is there now.
Leaning towards a lunch box locker for up front now. For a few hundred bucks, why not ?

You should do okay. Especially down there - not like you're driving around in 4x4 on the road.
