I have locking hubs and want to know if I can leave them locked for the winter and drive my blazer in 2wd and if I need to I can just shift into 4wd or do I need to lock them only if I am going to be in 4wd?

itll be fine to leave em locked, just be warned your mileage will suffer, as your axle innards and front driveshaft spinning. Also will make a little more noise.

Yes, you can leave them locked all winter. Drawbacks are noted above.
If it were my truck, I'd pull the hubs, clean them and repack the hubs and bearings before locking them up for the winter, but that's just me...

you can leave them locked, i do in the winter. with a 208 or 241 you can shift in 4wd while moving as long as the hubs are locked.

id just unlock the hubs if you were going on a long trip or on the highway.

You stil have to have it in neutral right??

no like if you have the hubs locked and you are driving you cant just reach down and put it in 4wd right?

nope. as long as the hubs are locked, the front driveshaft, chain and syncros are all spinning, just not enguaged. all it does is enguage the syncros.

4lo requires Nuetral. But I do it all the time from 2wd hi to 4wd hi. Dunes are fun in 2wd :):cool1:

Just let off the gas and pull the handle back. Prolly wont go in with your foot on it cause everything is under load.:)

Like shifting a dirtbike with no clutch..... harder on parts but it goes in.

goin downhill just slip tranny in neutral then shift into 4by. No chance for problems........... took the tranny/case out more than enough times lol.

Don't even have to do that. I would blast down sand washes in 2WD and as soon as the rear end would start to slide out I'd reach down pull it into 4Hi and it would straighten right up. All in a matter of second and still under power.:cool1:

I got some Auto-Hubs Ill trade ya:grin: I hate these bastards I can tell the one is about junked out. It doesnt always wanna let loose. I was gonna switch to Warns but a Dana 44/14FF combo might be in teh works
