LockRight lockers

Well if you can get it down to 3700 lbs then I want to know the scale house you are using because that were I need to weigh in at next time I load a D8 cat on my lowboy I would check there scales besides when you register a tk for the first time the lighter it is the cheeper the taxes are. /forums/images/graemlins/crewcab.gif

4100lbs to 3700lbs isn't that hard. Gutting the interior removes quite a bit of weight, I'd say 60lbs. Two doors that weigh 30lbs less each than stock (60lbs total). Two front fenders that weigh 10lbs less each than stock (20lbs total). Get rid of the heavy emissions system including ditching manifolds and catalytic converter 80lbs. Get rid of heavy quad headlight 81-87 front clip for lighter 89-91 front clip, 25lbs. Aluminum wheels instead of steel 10lbs. No tailgate 80lbs.

Not to mention all the weight I've lost to rust.

It's easy, just clean the crap out of your vehicle and it's lighter. For reference, a 1990 K1500 longbox standard cab weighs 4,000lbs.

If you were a member you could look up the specifications for the curb weight of K5s over the years. You've got to figure that a longbox truck is going to weigh less than a K5. There might be more sheetmetal and frame on a truck but it doesn't have the interior or the fiberglass.

And then after you do all that, in my case:

Add heavy 4 speed/NP 205, +300-400 lbs
Add Dana 60 front, +200-300 lbs
Add 14 bolt FF, +200 lbs
Add Swampers and 10" steel wheels, +150 lbs

Oops, my truck needs a damn diet.

And it's a shortbed! /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Been running Lock rites in my 10 bolts with 33" tires for around 4 years now. No problems. Like them a lot. I think they are the ideal locker for 10 bolts. They are cheap and make the things a little stronger. I would not waste money on putting a detroit in a 10 bolt or d44. If you need the strength of a detroit locker you need a bigger axle also.
FYI Detroit also makes a lunchbox locker similar to the lockrite. Stay away from them they are junk. Power trax Lockrites are lots better.
The prices on that site you linked to are too high. should be able to get lockrites for 10 bolts/ or 30 spline D44s for around $250

Thanks, it's always great to get the "spend less $$$" answer. I will probably be using this K5 for relatively moderate off roading (i.e: I'm not going to TRY to break anything) And I'm not planning on switching to a beefier axle, so it sounds like these Lockrights will work just fine for me, although it will probably turn out to give me just enough traction to make me dangerous and dumb. Not a stretch by any means.

Thanks again.
