uh oh. i was thinking that you were gonna be thee all day. my wife has plans starting late afternoon / early evening. hmmmm.
i'll see what time i have to be there, maybe i can still swing it. shouldn't take but 1/2 hour, right? but it will be friday commute time, so it might have to wait till long barn and a socket.
let's assume it is my joint (i mean the you-joint). will another road trip, plus a day in the snow, damage things? i'll have the new ones in the truck just in case, but how fun would it be to do it in the snow?
i want to go, but i don't want to get towed home.

Have you tried to wiggle your driveshft yet?
You may just need to grease them up?
Yes, Friday is hell to get out to my neck of the woods!
I have a press so all in all no more than 1hr to swap both out.
Don't forget were are assuming the Ujoint is your problem!
Do you have a grease gun? I can bring mine but I would try to grease them up ASAP and see if that solves it.
We don't want to have to doit in the snow, but if you break we won't have a choice

Grease and wiggle then go from there...
A vibration could be simply one of your tires out of balance, take a look at your wheels and see if you can tell if a weight is missing, should leave mark were it was. Kinda like taking something off a dusty table, leaves its 'footprint'.

I had two tires not balanced and it felt like Heck above 40.

geez only 2 out of ballance....heck i have been runnin with all mine out...i have had them ballanced 3 times so far and i just cant seem to get the damn bead locks to ballance..so i guess ill live with it...

Burt after lookin at the map you are right...i would be back tracking...i am tryin to get a few of my friends to head up...one is havin a hard time gettin off work...and Chris (blue bronco)...his daddy wont let him wheel..lol...his dad put his foot down the last time he broke it...since when he breaks down chris has to use his dads truck for his work...so no more wheelin with it untill he gets another daily driver...so he will prob. just ride with me...dose anyone mind a few people with jeeps?...i have a few that are interested in goin..

funny noise on the way in this morning.
i haven't crawled under the truck yet, it's been raining, i'll do that today at lunch.
i dropped from OD down into third, for a hill, and there was a distinct clunk, kinda like if i nuetral-dropped it. whenever i downshift like that, i let off the gas, and try to be hella smooth, and it usually doesn't even really lurch, but this was new.
still pointing to the me-joint?

Well...I don know. My buddy has a slushbox trannie and it slams,clunks &amp; pings when he starts or puts any sudden torque to his drive train so?? I never owned an automatic.
If you drive shaft doesn't wiggle side to side then you should be OK. BUT you should squirt some grease in them if you haven't done that before! I can bring my grease gun on sat if you want??

i looked in my garage last night, and all i found was some gay half size grease gun. don't know where the hell that came from...don't know if they have that size tubes o' grease.
i might go grab one from wally world today, and crawl under there in the parking lot.
i tried to wiggle the driveline, and it didn't seem to move. i just kinda squatted down, tonight i'll lay out a tarp and get greasy. one thing about an office job, i can't just run out there and start monkeyin' with the dirty dirty truck.

oh boy.
the rear u-joint is broken in two.
that must have been the clunk i heard. we're gonna try and replace them, but tools here are limited.
maybe i'll call goldrush at work, and see what his boss would charge to press 'em in and out.

ok, dropped the shaft, taking it to monument. they said probably an hour, no more than two.
wheeee! i get to go to the snow!!!!

ps. the moral of the story? GREASE YOUR U-JOINTS!

ok, so it doesn't look like i'll make the meeting in the parking lot. can i get some directions on where the group would most likely be?
i'll have a couple of hand-helds on ch 4, but i doubt they have much range. maybe i can get my cb powered up tonight....

Delta9Blazer.. When you are heading up 108 there will be a sign that says Long Barn next exit.. Go the 2nd exit turn right Then there will be 2 left Immediatly after you come off the highway. Take the 2nd one and fallow that road in about 12 miles.. When you see a camp ground on the left called Hull creek campground Then you have about 2 miles to go.And you turn to the right And then we fallow that trail in for about 6 miles to a meadow.. That is the first place we will be going.. I will leave some tape are something up for you to see where we turned in.. But we can wheelall over the place around there..And in those mountains the CB's don't carry very far....Dan
