Not like that you pervs. :haha: I mean no DOORS or TOP aka jeep style.

Im headed up north for a week on vacation and thought about taking doors off and getting the DIY tube doors and yanking top off, this will be just for the trip but wondered what headaches it would involve driving 2000 miles round trip. Ive actually never had the top off my truck, so I have zero experience with this.

Yeah, uh....don't do it.....especially not 2k miles.

I understand the freedom of what you are talking about, but I was a Jeep owner. When I purchased the Jeep it only had a bikini top....then I took it on the highway.....it was fun.....at first. After a while it beats you up, kind of like riding a motorcycle. You have less stamina for the highway.

Anyway, I picked up a full top and doors and was much happier. The top ALWAYS came off when offroading, but for the highway...button it up. You'll be glad you did. IMO.

Leave the doors on, take the top off. You've got a half cab, that's plenty of roof. Windows up or down depending how the weather is.

Top off on a half cab is no big deal. With doors off it might create a little weird airflow. I had the doors off my blazer and loved it. Just did 5hours of driving in my jeep no top half doors and loved it. Maybe pack the doors I case you change your mind and want them on lol?

200 miles? Sure.

2000 miles? You're going to be BEAT by the end. It reminds me of motorcycle trips. You simply cannot go as far because the wind and elements really wears you down.

I think it is such a cool idea! Some time ago Fred Williams from Petersen's 4 Wheel and Off Road did a road trip from CA to PA in a CJ. I thought it was such a radical idea and something we, as a whole, have gotten away from. Now days when we are going somewhere we take the most direct fastest route. But, while doing that we miss out on a few things. We miss the little gems along the way, eating at small BBQ joints, and miss being out in the elements.

I think you should do it and I think it would make for a heck of a great story. One that you should take lots of pictures of and document the trip day by day. Then post it up on this site.

I would at least wear pants, or you will burn your peepee, I think that would be bad.

Can't hear the tunes and you are deaf at the end of it. Drove mine about 800 miles top off. The wind noise gets old. And everything blows from the back into the cab. Felt like I was in a sand blaster.

Says the guy who has a camper and all the comforts of home on the back of his K5. :haha:

:thumb:

Used to have all that....... Truck was twice as much fun to drive after I took the camper off. I agree full convertible can be a beating in the elements after a while. I've driven my 72 with the top off from temps in the high 20's to up around 110. No big deal as long as you put on a warm hat and gloves in the cold, or have a hat and something cold to drink in the heat. Only been rained on a couple times, and that brought the suck. Other than that no problemo. Wouldn't want to drive it more than a a couple hundred miles one way.

Driving the the 76 topless was less intense so to speak. I miss the heck out of it. I think I could have driven it across the country.

DO IT NAKED,Well when I was building my half doors the wind was a big factor since it was 45 miles one way to work, but in my county the judge has determined that the doors off is safety equipment not in place but u can put a 2x4 across the bottom and be safety compliant.

I highly enjoy driving around and to the beach with no top or doors. I'm also a 19 y/o with a loud ass Series 10 Flowmaster on his truck. I love open air and feeling it, but that's my opinion.

I agree! But get some rain gear, goggles and warm clothes if needed. Adapt, improvise and overcome!
