2x1/4" wall for the inside and 2 1/2" seemless reciever tube for the outside. Or you can go the cheap route and buy 2 1/2" x 3/16" wall tube and grind a v-notch down the center of the inside tube for the seam of the outer tube. I recommend the later to save money and it is still very strong.
Square shafts can bring other problems too if you are not careful so do some research with the search feature here and on pirate.
