This thread/poll is only for pre-92 K5s & Full Size Jimmys. If yours is in the barn, or backyard, and hasn't run in months/years, you don't get to vote :)

I was reading another thread where someone mentioned how annoying it was when the CEL came on from time to time, and it got me thinking: how long has it been since your CEL came on?

For me, the last time mine came on was May 2011. It was right after I had a local guy rebuild the motor (the head's and up, left the block alone), and installing a new O2 sensor fixed it. Haven't had another in almost 3 years of being driven once or twice a week, not to mention a trip to Silverton, CO in July 2012, and a trip to Big Bend, TX in October 2013.

Mine hasn't come on in over 3 years. Came on twice prior to that. Once for a bad coolant temp sensor that caused the TBI to dump fuel in it. Again after I put headers on and the O2 sensor wouldn't get hot enough. Had to switch to self-heated sensor.

My 95 (I know after 92 but same basic system) has never came on since I have owned it, and Iv had it since 03. Dead reliable truck for the most part. Now my lovely Suburban on the other hand, it comes on just about every time it starts up it seems lately.

Never had one on my 80 camaro, 84 k10, 79 k30 or 82 k30

Every time I turn the key on the CEL comes on, blinks and goes off when I start the engine! :haha:

As long as that does not count? I can't remember my CEL ever coming on since I owned the 90 Suburban... which is about 8+ years!

been a bit over 2 yr's or so for Mutt.. it was throwing random EGR codes when I first started driving it, but fixed it, all good now...

CEL comes on every other day......usually about 10 miles into my drive to work, or on my way home. Code 32. Going to check the EGR. ECM prom needs a tune also. Runs great even with the code so not in a hurry to fix. Been working on tailgate power window issue.

Mine comes on every day on my way home from work. Going up hill at 65mph in OD with 3.42:1 gears and 31" tires. The knock sensor is constantly getting a hit. When I ran the 91 octane non ethanol gas I did not have the issue.

Mine's been off for a couple of years and about 20000 miles. Mine was the egr code most likely from removing the cat.

You should add to the criteria that it's a FI engine?

I voted 5+ because mine is pre-92, fuel injected and has never had a CEL. It also doesn't log trouble codes. Instead, Megasquirt lets you see all the actual data and figure out for yourself if something is off.

Don't pre-FI trucks have CELs? I'm going to feel pretty dumb if not...
