Look at cover of Sep Petersons 4x4...anyone made drop brackets like those?

I am not arguing the concept...and frankly they are probably strong for the purposes of that vehicle. With that said though, THOSE just look like a hack job. No doubt the frame rails themselves are under a lot of stress as well with those big axles and tires. I guess I would expect more from a mag cover vehicle. Why not link it instead? More cost maybe, but also a better design. You certainly don't see monster trucks (as in Big foot et al) running around with leaf springs and mounts like that.

I didn't mean to stir the pot on this Jek. I as only relaying my first impression when I saw the cover the other day...

its all good. There have definitely been some nasty bootyfab stuff in mags in the past. Guess there still is. :thumb: As far as the "why not go links?" question... its all about the benjamins. I'm not gonna link my K5 until I can afford Evolution-type heims for the links... that could be years. ;) Cutting edge link suspensions are about a million times more spendy than a pair of leafs. ;)

Maybe you didn't read my reply. Thanks for the big letters though! I did READ the article, and still stand by mt comments. I feel that it is not a good implementation, and will probably end up twisting the frame rails in the long run. Heck, running it on the street is probably less stress than off-road, meaning it would last longer (albeit maybe not as safe)!

I guess this struck a nerve with some. I also think that big chevy in another post (tug of war one) is atrocious! It may only be used for tug of war on closed courses...doesn't mean it is well engineered/safe/good enough/etc... also a hack in my book!

Some people have different standards than others... not trying to be personal about it though...

I agree that they are are bit long but they look stout enough the and it's a mud truck that isn't driven at high speeds I think it's a Cool rig it's a Homebuilt/budget/Actually Wheeled kind of truck ...... Alot better than alot of the "Built Right" rigs that seem to frequent this site , that sit in the garage while there owners Web Wheel and talk **** about the guys that are actually out there wheeling there "junk"

sorry i only look at the pics and make snap jugments :doah: :haha:
but i will say a little more braceing is needed and i like the short set in the first pic

Here is a site about frame drops http://www.extremeoffroad1.com/

there is a 4wd shop up the road from me that believes in frame drops for anything over 4". Of course they dont believe in xover steering either. :haha:

I don't see why some of you guys freaked out. Sounds like most SFA kits for IFS trucks. Like jek said, just because one guy booty-fab'd something doesn't mean its it can never work. I know a few guys running something similar, 2 are DD, 3 are trail only. At least 3 have been in use for more than 5 years.

I have something similar on my truck. been there for years. Not as tall as that burb has. never had a problem with it. stronger steel than stock. I was able to lift it for bigger tires with a flater spring. I also reused it when i went to 52's up front.

its all good. i read the whole article. and such as i posted the pics first than read the bag. b/c i have a habbit of lookin at the pics than reading.
their is a good right up on how tires are made...lol

I don't really care much about about the design of the burb but I do agree on one thing and that is there sure is a lot webwheelers that talk alot of **** about others peoples junk.

Ahhh... that Suburban. There's a familiar sight.

I saw it in person at one stage in it's build up. I saw how the shackles were and it looked not the safest... but I knew he wasn't gonna be going on the road or anywhere really except the Moyie Mud Bog. This is the guy I sold a working TH400 and NP205 setup too and then refunded over half his money cause the 400 turned out to be on its last leg.

I wanted to go up and talk to him when I saw him show up with the Suburban at the Mud Bog, and ask "Hows your newly rebuilt tranny"... that I partially paid for the rebuild... but I figured I'd lay off the sarcasm and just drive my own rig.

It actually seemed to do pretty well up there. It sports the original TBI 350 with open exhaust and seemed to churn through the mud without too much trouble. I didn't see anything bad happen as a result of the shackles, but he wasn't catching air or anything either. For a strictly mud bog rigs, they're just fine.

now be a man and buy real springs

Haha, I just read that. I can't remember know, but I think that he did have like some huge lift springs, 8"-12" and those themselves werent tall enough, so the shackle extensions were added in addition.

i only jumped bc it is really unsafe from the looks , muddybuddy just wanted to do something no neccesarily unsafe this is just obscene.;)

Its obviously a mud truck from what I can tell, havent read the article yet, so I really dont see what the big deal is, its not like theres a lot of stress on them compared to a rock rig or something. Granted I wouldnt do one like that I dont think its unsafe if its purely an offroad truck especially for mudholes..
