ook so i have a 76 w/o a tach... im lookin to put one in to know when im doin the best on the highway and to basicly just have one
am i looking for an electrical or mechanical tach?
how would i go about installing it?

That depends if you have a tach drive distributor or not. If not, then electric is the only option. If it's a new unit, the included paperwork should tell you all you need to know about installation. If it's a used unit without an install manual, the manufacturer's web site might have PDFs of the install paperwork. You might check one of those sites now, like autometer.com, and see if they have any PDFs in their support section.

yea that is about what i need... confused about the website... how do i order one off autometer or do i need to call?

if i were to put a tach in a truck dash 67-87 then i would take a 75-up tach from a camaro or firebird or etc and put it where the fuel guage goes, and then get a small van fuel guage and put it in one of the small guage holes on the left

i may do it to my 77, as i have a tach cluster out of a 6.6L 78 trans am when i was stripping it for scrap

thinking about it

just an idea/thought, and it would work with a little detail work

good luck

I got a complete tach gauge set on ebay with the printed circuit everything you need and I plugged it into mine no problems. The whole thing was like $80 shipped. I had to have the tach repaired and had it recalibrated to 7K and that was like $40.:D
