Looking at an 05 d-max. UPDATE, Year end review

Love my stock all around 05. Same truck as yours with no lift. The only thing I have done to it is added a Banks Power Brake. 45 minute install exhaust brake. Never had ro touch the brakes coming back from Moab this year. Until It hits 10 mph.

Congrat's on the new to you truck.

thanks, how much did that exhaust brake run you? might look into that.

No more than any of the others. $1300. Saved for a while and worth every penny. An other nice feature is real engine and trans temps. Plus reads and clears codes.

Interesting, I guess the 05's have a separate antenna for xm? My 07 (same bodystyle) only has the sharkfin antenna on the drivers side.

Ordered from husker for most my stuff. Great guy to deal with. The guys at Duramaxforum.com will help you with tuning for a small fee
:whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle:

hmmm i like that. was leaning more toward the Edge CTS setup

What kind of exhaust setup do i need to run to allow for a chip? I currently live in a county that doesnt have emissions but i heard a rumor that they may be switching over. So how would a typical setup be?

Get an exhaust kit for an 04' truck just like yours. Will come with the front pipe that doesn't have the cat in it. Keep the front pipe from your truck for emissions later.

This gives you a full 4" exhaust from the down pipe back. Diamond Eye has a 3" down pipe that I use and it lowered egts a lot. Between, head gaskets, diamond eye down pipe and the LBZ/4" intake I lowered my egts 150 to 200 degrees. Still gets hot, I do sustained pulls at 1250 to 1300 degrees a lot. Rumor has it the LLY was rated for 1475 continuous egt but i haven't been that adventurous.

Like I said, spend a good bit of time on Diesel place. It's all there and then some.

Spend your money on efi live or a ppe, any 4inch exhaust will be good from the turbo back, but most importantly with your lift and tires, look at doing upgrades on your trans. Guys will tell you that if you go easy on it the trans will last, 'BS" IT WILL NOT for long.

Also search for pump rub on dp it can happen at any time.

Not trying to scare anyone, just saying.

Good luck getting Cummins claimed mpg numbers with those 37s and don't trust the DIC for your mpgs. My LBZ held the PPE 160 tune well but knew it wouldn't hold forever. Also look into the PPE airbox mod. Best I ever got unloaded doing 55 on the highway on 285s was 19.5.

I am very skeptical of people that post up these high mpg claims.

My '06 Ram Mega Cab with a 6" lift, 33x15.50 baha claws, and the crazy larry tune only gets me about 13ish in town and the one time I checked it on the freeway was only 16.7.

Putting a lift and big tires on these trucks sucks mileage up like a sponge.

Our dmax is stock tires so that's why I get 18 city when I drive it
I should clarify, as I didn't mean mileage claims in this thread, just random threads here and there that we've all seen.

Oh I know what you mean. Guys claiming 30mpg in their cummins!:haha:

Just tryin to give the OP something to compare his numbers to.

I get about 24-28 highway unloaded with 285x75x16's and my economy tune. But I keep it at 65-70 not 80-85 like most people run. Keep your foot out of it and you can keep a tank alot longer. If you like to smoke out the highway as you are merging, then the gauge moves a whole lot faster.:whistle:

Wow...what tuner do you run? Your truck 4wd? What cab size? I find this truly hard to believe and borderline laughable. I'd run my PPE on the economy tune in my 4x4 ccsb Duramax, intake, exhaust and few other mods and would only get 16-17 going 65-70. Is your mpg hand calculated?
