Looking at an 05 d-max. UPDATE, Year end review

Wow...what tuner do you run? Your truck 4wd? What cab size? I find this truly hard to believe and borderline laughable. I'd run my PPE on the economy tune in my 4x4 ccsb Duramax, intake, exhaust and few other mods and would only get 16-17 going 65-70. Is your mpg hand calculated?

idk why you find this borderline laughable. i always calculate my mpg in my vehicles by hand. its not that hard to get good mpg if you know how to drive your truck. im sure jekquist knows what hes talking about:thumb:

:haha: I know a guy who claimed 35 mpg in his 7.3 CCLB on 35s :haha: I'm just wondering what I'm doing wrong...When I calculated for my best MPG, I had new fluids and drove through every gear like grandpa would. So tell what I'm doing wrong with a more efficient engine and an extra gear in the transmission?

granted there are alot of idiots out there. 35 mpg is a far stretch. ours has the 6th gear but its an extended cab SB 08. i just keep the rpms low on start. no tune for ours either:dunno:

now thats with me driving, when dad drives it, he gets about 16 or so.

I also have a hard time believing 24-28, unless he has EFI live and has a super special top secret economy tune on it.

Best I ever did was 23mpg on my 2001 Ram, back when it had stock tires. 60-65mph and a bit of a tail wind helping. Never could get that again, 20-21 was more of an average.

That's nuts, my 95 7.3 CCLB 4x4 on 35s (with an all steel flatbed) has a best of 22 and that was with a tail wind driving on I-90 through Montana keeping it at 60, long and flat. In general I get about 18-19 on the highway when I'm not putting my foot in it, which is not to bad for an 8300lb truck :D

Fine and dandy, but I'm wondering about the 24-28 MPG claim.......and I still highly doubt any MPG above 17 for the OP...a CCSB sitting on 37s with a 5 speed and tuner is NO WAY going to get 20+ MPG.

Right I'm getting 14.5 with the 37s and no performance mods. That's computer calculated and hand calculated.

I don't ever see myself getting mid 20's with my setup but a re gear? Chip exhaust and a breather setup I see no reason why I couldn't get 20 maybe 21 which is perfectly fine with me.

Do those mods and please report back...I'd like to know myself...

lB7`S are the best for fuel mileage lly`s good too lbz and the newest version not as good even with the 6 speed ally. That said I get around 18 most of the time with a diablo sport tuner on 65,and 285`s.

But I don`t care what any one thinks 18 with a 3/4 ton that can pull is OK with me.

Ding ding! EFI live, modded turbo mouthpiece, ppe boost valve. And my mileage is calculated. Stock my truck got 18-19MPG with no tunes or anything. Maybe I just have one of those rare good mileage trucks. I'm down around 20-22 now that its winter fuel.

yeah 4wd, extended cab short bed.

well its been almost a year and here are the results.

got rid of the 37/13.5/17's and used my blazer tires which are BFG mud terrian KM2's 35/12.5/17's

instantly saw 2 mpg difference.

then did the AFE cold air intake AFE mouth Piece, 4 inch turbo back exhaust with muffler.

Edge juice with attitude CTS.

ran it thru all the levels and for a month on each. mix of city and driving. found the best option for me driving like a grandpa is mixed highway and city level 1 which would get me 18.2 mpg hand calculated over many tanks.

from north denver to trinidad doing 65 instead of 75 on I25 i was able to get 19

as for power, had it dynoed with the mods when it was on 37's at the rear wheels it made 398 HP and 705 Ft lbs of torque on level 5 (did not do the hot unlock)

have not dynoed it with the 35's yet.

as for maintence, it now has 16k more on it since i bought it. i had to put a water pump, driver side hub, new batterys,

this week i need to replace the pass side hub, needs both rear axle seals and possibly the pinion seal, also the transfer case rear output seal, and needs shocks.

overall after almost a year. im still loving it. hauled a couple trailers no big deal. had a 24 inclosed trailer loaded full that i hauled to trinidad when i moved my buddy, ran 75 all the way and got 10 mpg. there are some long hills down by that way (not huge like if going over the mountains but still a good climb) and it ran 75 all the way and would have held 5th gear with no problem but i dropped it to 4th just to be safe.

my dad has a 05 6.0 with the 4l80 in it. towing of course is a big difference compared to his but also just driving around town its amazing how much the drivability of the duramax is better than the 6.0.

anyway thats the year update. highly recommend the DMAX, even though i have had some small mechanical issues.

Oh and it will run a 1/4 mile faster than my cousins 03 V8 mustang and my brothers 2010 V6 camaro

Nothing puts a smile on your face better than seeing the look on your family members face when their sports car gets beat by a crew cab 4x4 truck lol

That's fantastic:waytogo:

I have an 05 cc LLY running a banks otto mind with their intake and exhaust, recently did the LBZ mouthpiece for a kodiac. This truck runs good and the sorts cars freak when a 3/4 ton cc4x4 leaves them at the light.

Virtually no major issues, I have to pull the battery cables now and then for a reset, thats about it.
