Looking for my old K5 - Renton, WA area

So the million dollar question is, how much did you sell it for and when, and what did you have to pay to get it back?

I don't remember how much I sold it for.....I think around $8,500 and I picked this one up for $3,500. I do think the 3500 is a little steep for the condition but it is a unique (to me) vehicle. Got married in it so definitely worth it to me.

There isn't a monetary value placed on something that is sentimental to you.

I was just more curious about how the market was for you as a seller and buyer.

I do remember it sold very quickly but that was about 13 or 14 years ago. According to carfax, it stayed in the Seattle area but changed hands about 4 or 5 times. A lot of different owners.

I stumbled on the ad on Friday and had the cash in his hands today (Saturday). He did say he dropped the price from last week but I still think it was a little high.

Case in point, my daughter is almost ready to drive and found a really nice 88' blazer locally. $3600 and in much better shape than the Seattle truck. Black paint, maroon interior, stock wheels, auto hubs (still), no dents, lower mileage (by a lot) and just in better overall shape. We were actually thinking about getting it but the guy sold it before we could see it. Daughter cried when she found out it was sold. Had a name for it and everything......"Cherry Bomb"....

thats pretty cool that you could find it. looks to be in pretty great shape too... but im from the rustbelt.

Finally, after several years.....I found the truck! I happen to stumble on it via craigslist. I called the guy, verified the VIN and just picked it up today! It's probably been over 10 years since I last saw it.

I had my brother-in-law pick it up in the Seattle area and at least get it to his house. My next step, try and transport it back to Colorado.

I haven't seen it in person but my brother did say it ran pretty good. I think at this point the truck has about 308,000 miles on it! Pretty amazing really.

Can't wait to see it and start rebuilding it. :thumb:

Did you retain the Vin for the K5? If not how did you obtain the VIN? How often did you check CL? This gaveme some inspiration. Problem is that I do not have the VIN.

Yea, I had the VIN to verify. I basically checked the Seattle area craigslist every so often. Whenever I saw a white, 89' I would just send a quick email asking some general stuff and also the VIN #. This doesn't really sound bad as so many people like to run a carfax on vehicles all the time. I just got lucky....for sure!

When I visited some relatives a few years back, I really decided to look hard for it. Spent probably 2 solid days driving around the Renton/Kent area trying to just spot it. If so, I was going to offer them a deal. Never found it. Finally remembered I had some cop friends that could help me out on the existing owner :waytogo:. I called him and he said it was sold a few months ago and the new owners hacked it up and turned it into a rock crawler. I basically signed it off at that point. Figured it was gone beyond repair.

Still curious, I kept checking CL and now, it's history!

Went to WSU many years ago....it will eventually sport a new Coug sticker in the back sometime soon.:D

Right now it's in a shop being evaluated on it's road worthiness. Wouldn't start this morning so we'll see what happens. Hopefully it won't take too much to get it back up and running. If possible, I might be able to fly up this weekend and drive back to Colorado with it.....we'll see.

Awesome story man.

Sometimes I wonder where my '92 Blazer K1500 ran off to. However I'd just want to point a gun at it and ask for all my money back.

Woah, congrats on the find after so many years!

And always nice to find fellow cougs:D...I graduated a few years back but for some reason haven't made it out of Pullman yet.:doah:

I wouldn't say the football team is making a trip there all that too appealing! :dunno:

Yes, I know they beat Montana (barely) but they're not even in the Pac 10 league. Cougs got to definitely turn it around in the next few years.
