I have a 1989 Blazer and am looking to buy a GM crate engine for it very soon.
I wanted to get something close to 300hp.

The only option that I really see from GM is this:

http://www.chevy350engines.com/cem5.html

But it's only 200hp. The ones that I have seen on GM's site are 330 HP but aren't fuel injected....
I don't don't do any serious off roading (yet), but would like to have a bit of extra HP just in case....

Does anyone have any suggestions? It looks like I might be stuck with the 200 hp....

Thanks....

How about this:

That is very impressive....the Ramjet 350? It's very nice...but a bit out of my price range....Although I wish it was in my range

I just ordered a long block from motorcrate out of Portland Oregon. Its a 383 410HP/420ft/lbs for just under $2500 shipped with no core charge. Hopefully it comes this week. I used there ebay store to order it, or you can go directly to their website. It comes with a 7 year/ 70,000 mile warranty.

Wrong! Look at the pic again. Look at the sticker on the valve cover.

Can you say.......502? :bow::bow::bow::bow::bow:

I didn't see the 502...thank's for pointing that out....What year is your Blazer?

Maybe I'll check out motorcrate's site...but I'd have to get it shipped to canada

Just avoid the 290hp engine... too much cam, not enough compression.

I have one and hate it, another friend has one in a '79 Firebird, and it won't even spin the rear tires.

(I just need to have this saved to a hot-key so I don't have to type it out in every single crate engine thread from now on... :p: )

I've got a '91 K5, '85 K30, '80 C20, '83 K30 rolling chassis, '75 F250 Highboy and an '89 New Yorker which is my daily driver.

My "project" toy is a '74 K5 chassis that I'm wanting to build with all the good stuff. Just need more time and money.

i just installed the stock replacement 350 with a bore throttle body, edlebrock intake, comp cam, roller lifters, msd ignition and dist., high pro water pump, chip cause its TBI, and other doodads. Thought it was going to be tight but was a bit dissapointed. Its better than b4 but not by alot I think. Guess I expected more. I think I would go the 383 route next time.

link? that sounds like good deal!

Here's an outfit in Spokane, WA

I've not done business with them because of a lack of $$, but I've talked to them a couple of times and was impressed. Here's the site http://motorworksengines.com/383.php A complete 383 with manifold, no carb, etc. $2349.00. Good hunting.

A lot of these guys are posting up links to High HP strokers that will not come close to working with your TBI fuel injection system.
There are engines out there that make realistic HP with stock or slightly modified TBI.
They wont require lots of $$$ to modify your TBI to work with them.

Motorcrate.com has a nice TBI 350 that will be pretty much plug and play with your stock system. it will give you what you want for a good price.

Or if you want to spend some more $ for a 383 that comes with a custom chip for your TBI ECM. This is a very nice engine.

Thunder knows, you can build a strong TBI engine. If yours isn't, the *system* isn't put together right.

I've talked to a guy at one of the engine shops that is near me. He said that I could go with a carborated model and used my factory fuel injection system.
He said the downfalls would be that I probably wouldn't get the rated HP and milage might not be as good as it could.
I'm a bit new to this so it looks like I might be opening a can of worms by getting a carb model and trying to get it to work with my existing FI system.

i have the aforementioned 290 hp 350 and over my tired ole 305 it was a nice swap.. and with 4.56 gears i can roll my 35" tires over!!!! hence the reason i had to replace an exploded carrier
