Looking for recommendations on a Crate Engine

Dont buy a Carb 350 and try to put your TBI on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am just trying to save you some headaches. Carb 350s have Wrong cam profile and low compression heads, also your TBI manifold will not bolt up to older heads without a little work on the bolt holes. After all the mods and $$$ spent you will just end up with an engine making less power than a crate TBI 350.
Just buy a crate stock 2 bolt main TBI engine. If you want more power You can insall a mild computer cam, edelbrock intake and a set of headers.
Or
The motorcrate TBI engine I posted in my other post is a good deal and is even cheaper than a Goodwrench crate TBI 350.

You need to understand with out a custom chip tune and going to a bigger Throttle body you cant make 300 HP.
The stock TB will only support 290HP under ideal conditions. 280 HP, 330TQ is more realistic goal.

Thanks for all the responses guys....This is my first engine replacement so these are helping me quite a bit....

From GM it looks like this would be my only option...but it's 200HP

That should hook into my current fuel injection system.

Thunder...would you comments "ust buy a crate stock 2 bolt main TBI engine. If you want more power You can insall a mild computer cam, edelbrock intake and a set of headers." Apply to this engine?

I think I'll contact Motorcrate to see about the 290 HP engine and to see what shipping would be to Canada....

I know the TBI crate engine says 200HP
But
GM rates HP for the carb engine different than the TBI engine.
Because the Carb engine is a one size fits all engine, and is listed for pre 1972 and on. They can rate HP at the flywheel. (SAE Gross HP) When rating.. There are no accessories installed, and can use better intake, exhaust, with no smog stuff to rate HP.

The TBI engine is for later model trucks and has to be rated with all acessories, stock intake and exhaust and emissions installed. (SAE-Net HP)

If the TBI engine was rated at the flywheel (SAE Gross HP) It would make as much or more HP than the 230 HP Carb engine.
It is a myth that TBI engines make less power than carbed engines.
In 1987, When GM introduced TBI in trucks. Stock HP jumped from 185 (CARB) to 210 wth TBI.

Re the crate engine you posted the link to.
The engine you posted is for 1 ton truck. That is the heavy duty LO5 350. It has lower compression heads. and makes less HP than the 2 bolt light duty engine. 2 bolt is fine for a Blazer.
This has a higher HP rating and compression ratio:http://www.crateenginedepot.com/sto...05-New-Goodwrench-Engine-12568758-P63C63.aspx

You can add the cam and intake ect, I talked about in eariler post to it if you desire.

I'm looking at the 290hp engine from Jasper. I can get it for $1450 and it has a 3yr/100k warranty and no shipping charges. I looked at the motorcrate engines but shipping would be killer from OR to MS.

If it's like the 290hp engine from Chevy, avoid it.

the 2 bolt engine thunder said is what i just installed 1mo ago with all sorts of goodies. A bit better than stock but i was a tad disappointed. I was hoping for more but I was just going to do a cam and headers but after disassembly found I needed a new block too so thats what I bought. If I knew I was going to put a new engine in from the start I would go the 383 route he also mentioned. All it cost is money and time. How much of each do you have then settle for that.

Got mine from JEGS

Good price. Good warranty. Nothing to extreme. Should produce right at 300 HP when finished.

A lot of these guys are posting up links to High HP strokers that will not come close to working with your TBI fuel injection system.
There are engines out there that make realistic HP with stock or slightly modified TBI.
They wont require lots of $$$ to modify your TBI to work with them.

Motorcrate.com has a nice TBI 350 that will be pretty much plug and play with your stock system. it will give you what you want for a good price.

Or if you want to spend some more $ for a 383 that comes with a custom chip for your TBI ECM. This is a very nice engine.

Listen to Thunder.

will a quadra jet carb work on a 383 stroker? would you all say that the quadra jet works fairly well on inclines and side hills for being a carb? thanks -Ryan
