Looking for Suburban tips

Could you still get a SM465 in a V2500 in '90-'91?

Can't tell for '91.

For '90 there's a four speed manual listed on R2500, and V1500-2500. (Why not for the other, which is 2WD 1/2, right? is beyond me.)

The auto, however, was standard, so the stick woulda been special ordered ... think I've seen one TBI-era Burb with a stick in it.

Well, it's been a l-o-n-g time since I posted on here but I finally got my Suburban. The wife and I found an 88 GMC Suburban 1/2 ton with 108,000 miles, TBI 350, swapped in TH350 and NP 208 for $1500. One owner and in excellent shape. It was such a deal that I had to jump on it while I could. And since we're expecting our first baby in November, it'll be a great family hauler this winter. I have found out that parking this thing can be a little challenging, but what the heck.

I'll post some pics as soon as I figure out how to do so.

Sounds like a sweet truck if it's not rusty.

I've been under, over, around and through this thing already and I can't find a spot of rust anywhere. The lot I bought it off of told me it was owned by the proverbial old man that wanted to upgrade to a newer vehicle...blah, blah, blah.........:doah:

You never know, it could have been. 108K miles in 20 years is nothing. It seems a lot of these rigs were bought for towing(even the half tons.. yes, that is scarey :eek1:). Find out why they swapped the 700R4 out for a TH350?

You still planning to lift it and upgrade your tire size? If so, I'd probably get 3/4 ton axles and put them in at the same time as the lift(going through them before the swap to fix leaks, brakes, and other little things that come with age). I'd be worried about fragging a 10 bolt rear under a Suburban with 35's on it..

Parking them is fun, isn't it? You've probably got better mirrors than me.. the electric mirrors SUCK for visibility compared to the older ones. I'm thinking I need some extensions or something, as this thing has a blind spot that'll swallow a geo.

Yeah, get some fisheye mirrors from NAPA or someplace, they are worth their money over and over again. It's especially nice when the drivers side blind spot no longer exists, and the passenger side can't hide that Metro.

I think they swapped out the 700R because it just went kaput on the P.O. That's fine with me since I like the TH 350 better than the 700R. I'm not saying a 700 is a piece of poo, but when I had my 90 K-5, I hardly ever used OD. I just need to install a good cooler for the trans and I'll be happy.

I'm still planning on lifting "Fillmore", but I don't know yet if I'm going with a 2" or a 4" lift. If I went with a 2" lift, I could use 33's and still be able to load a car seat in the back without a ladder, but a 4" lift would look cool. I was thinking of just upgrading the stock 10 bolt front and swapping in a 12 bolt rear that a friend of mine has in his driveway. That way I could still use 6 lug rims, of which I have 7 spares in my shed, and cheaper 15" tires.

12 bolt isn't much stronger than the 10.. more work, why bother?

I'm doing a 2" lift in the front and somewhere around 3-3.5" in the rear, hoping to fix the saggy butt and keep it streetable. Planning on 33" SSR's later on. Seems with Interco there are plenty of tires for 16" wheels that don't cost more than 15".
