Picked up a '78 K5 a few weeks ago, been doing a little work here and there to keep myslef occupied until some money frees up here in about a month for me to start building it up.

It currently has a TH350/NP203. I hate the NP203 and was gonna swap a 205 in it's place and keep the gearbox from the 203 for a double later on.

The TH350 leaks like a sieve (the engine does too lol) and I know that getting a slush box rebuilt isn't the cheapest thing or I could go all out and buy a nice shiny new one from PATC that would set me back almost $2k.

I have x2 SM465's sitting in my garage, I think both of them are good to go but I know for certain that one is 100% good. I also have a 205 that is currently mated to the questionable 465.

I'm looking at my next transmission with a longevity aspect, strength, cost to build and simplicity.

Just looking for some fellow CK5er's to nudge me towards the SM465 lol.

Thanks. I was looking at those hand throttles from JB customs.

Did you do hydro or stay mechanical for the clutch?

Yeah, 465 all day every day. I'd even hazard a guess just from my 1 year sample size of reading here, more people have problems with automatics than engines. Well, that may be an exaggeration, but it sounded good. :D

Oh and @max 02 !

I ran a mtn bike brake handle. Available as take offs from the bike shop, or buy a mtn bike from the goodwill.

Mine is still mechanical. I never changed the 72 K5 over either

Actually, to be perfectly fair, this is my 4th squarebody. First had a turbo 350, second had a turbo 400, and third had a 700r4.

They all were perfectly fine. But I wouldn't want to go back to one.

My 77 had a th400I liked it too! But sold it for parts money when I did the BB swap.

I gotta find all the linkage stuff and clutch pedals for a 465. I might need a crossmember too.

There's a 70something pickup in my local junkyard that had a 465 in it, I went back one time and it was gone but the column, pedals and shift linkage might still be there, hopefully!

I had a 700r4/208 in my SWB K10 and I hated that POS. I got the correct bracket for the TV Cable and set the TV cable properly and I think it was kinda fried from the P.O. but I've not been a fan of slush boxes since then.

Plus I like the smell of gear oil :saweet:

This is my 5th Square:

'77 K10 SWB - 700R4/NP208
'86 K5 - 700R4/NP208 (Everything was freshly rebuilt and ran flawlessly)
'86 K5 - TH350/NP203
'79 K5 - TH350/NP203
'78 K5 - TH350/NP203

I have a history with TH350's and 203's.

If I ran an auto it would have to be worked. Sidewinder shifter thingy, lots of cooling ability and a temp gauge at least. That said my luck with autos is terrible so I don't even entertain the thought.
