Looking to put a stereo in a M1009. Cheap as possible

They might...not to mention mine would drool a little during heavy rain so not sure I'd want to put expensive speakers and mounting stuff under them even if they did fit.

I loved those vents btw. Wish like hell The Blazer had them rather than the non-working AC setup and dash vents I never use.

Jessie, picture a K5 with NO interior, maybe just the front rubber mat. Seats and door panels basically. Not even a center console.

I've seen guys mount the cheap speaker boxes to the rear wheel humps or just hang them off the structure of the sides somehow.
On Big Ugly...a M1008 pickup...I put a 6.5" round in each door down toward the bottom. Sounded good but totally drowned out the little dash speakers. I'd almost say put a 6.5" in each door and one on each side in the back. I still have the stock front speakers and the aftermarket 6.5" rounds mounted where the factory ash trays used to be. You almost can't hear the stock front speakers.

My understanding about trying to put 6.5" speakers in the doors is that there is a piece of metal behind where you would want to mount them, so cutting the hole is really a PITA. However, you could probably buy 1" speaker spacers which would allow a smaller hole since you could mount the speaker further out.

Mine worked fine. I think somewhere in the 07 time frame I put up pictures of my install. They were toward the bottom and forward on the door where the carpet would be on a Silverado.

I just drilled a hole and then used a saw to cut a circular hole out from there. Worked great.

Don't forget shopping at www.sonicelectronixs.com they have killer car audio prices and give the adapters need for stereo hookup on some items. Along with install information.

If you were going to use the ammo can, I would bolt it behind the seat to the floor, drill holes in it for air flow, and padlock the latch at least. Like a tuffy box for an amplifier.

6.5" size is a perfect size for sound and volume of the engine noise. 6x9's in the back corners would work perfect also.

You can always get the pods for the foot well that let you install 6.5" speakers in the foot well. Or you can go for the door also. Through a set of 3.5" in the dash also and you'll have clear upper end with a good mid-range. Through a 8" tube behind the seat and you would be rockin without going deaf completely.

It's more expensive but I noticed Dual has a new unit at Wallyworld with all the fun features including and iPod dock. $125ish I want to say.

I want to get a better unit in The Blazer so I'm keeping an eye out.

Hey man, whatever happened with this? I actually ended up with that Dual headunit I mentioned before.

Ive been sitting on this stuff for awhile now :doah: I got a pair of Kicker 3.5" speakers for the dash and a pair of 6x9 Pioneer speakers that will go in the back. I also picked up a kicker amp, I believe 300W? Forgot if its 2 or 4 channel. I cut the tendon in my left hand over a month ago and had to have surgery on it. So I've been out of commission for awhile
