So after a long week at the hostpital with pops Westtexask5(roommate) decided we would go to BMRA(barnwell mountain recreational area) just outside gilmer TX. we decide to take the K30 just so if i break something in the K5 D60 i would have a spare. So we welded the rear 14ff and headed out Fri at 11am. Going at a steady 65mph or so we stop and the tranny is pouring fluid out. we drive into a larger town of graham TX. and stop in the AutoZone parking lot and pull the tranny hump out and find a bolt from the adapter is gone and the fluid is running out though there. buy a bolt fill the tranny off we go only to get stuck in traffic and construction north of dallas. 30-40 miles out of gilmer BANG!!!!. SH!!!!!T. sounds like the driveshaft dropped but look under and its good. well? the shaft is turning but the rearend is toast. so we lock the hubs and drive into barnwell mountain at 30mph. next day we get up and try to find some folks to wheel with and all there are are jeeps and a blazer all on 44s and lots of tubing. what the hell? so we followed them and the fun began. pics are still arriving so bear with me.
ps. later that day after looking more closely with light at the rear D70 on the towrig the hub and both wheels on the driver side had begun to slide out of the axle tube. turns out the outer race had come loose and allowed it all to come apart. found spare parts and fixed it but then found it took the spider gears with it so we continued into mt pleasant TX. where we had to call for reinforcements.
