loose hubs

i went an put new brakes on my 84 k5 and noticed a littl play in the hubs. i need to re-pack my bearings and tighten up the hub. isnt there a step by step post in here to do this? , and what size hub socket do i need ?.
i have locking hubs on it , and i am afraid to take off and springs go flying , /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif ,
