So another oppurtunity has come up to get a 74 gmc jimmy that has a 60/14 combo, no tranny or transfercase, and a small block with world industries high flow heads sitting on 37" military tires. He says I can have it for 1500. my thing is do I really want a full top? The plus side is that I can sell one of the 60's and have a 1000 towards some 40" ltb super swampers.

HAHA I havn't even looked at it...i guess its straight eccept the doors. How hard are those doors to replace? How much could a cage be built for one, as it would be a must for wheelin topless.

So I have decided, after tossing around which jimmy to get. (the 74 with the dana 60 but no tranny or tcase, and kinda beat, oooooor the 79 jimmy that i helped build with a locker and disc breaks out back and the hella h4 headlights)

And he winner is the 79 jimmy, I just cant stand the though of someone else owning it, it does need a little work like a little more lift and save some coin for 39.5s and a front locker. As I said before He sold off the old 40's and lift from previous pictures and installed a 4 inch lift and some 37" goodyear military tires.

So here it is as it sits.

I definatly want to tuck this bumper in tighter to the body somehow. It sticks out like 3 or 4 inches and kinda bothers me for some damn reason:dunno:

A winch is high on my list of things to get as well, What do you guys think? Get a winch before tires? Or tires before winch?

Thats only 4"? Is there a body lift? Looks higher than 4 to me especially if those are 37s... Id say get lift and tires before winch. Unless u really got the wheelin bug at the moment. But build sliders first :D

Ya its probally closer to 5 inches, but the lift in the back is stock leafs and a shackle flip, thats it. Not like it matters Ill be collecting parts and doing the 52/56 swap on it which should get me around 4", then zero rates, 1" body lift, and the longer shackles. That should put me around 7":dunno: If its not to my liking heighth wise ill get some 2" lift 52s and match the rear.

Believe it or not the "faded" drab green isn't faded at all haha, it walmart special camo green, I was thinging about throwing some tsl racing strips all the way down the middle, front to back....

id leave it how it is. i was thinkin of doing mine OD green or aircraft grey still not sure on that.

An update.

Hey guys.....An update for all the brothers. Where do I start?

Well since my last post I have been working ALOT and just been doing the daily gring. But I did get time to finish up the jimmy and put together the front axle with the spartan locker I picked up.

Let me just say....wheeling and truck that is fully locked is awsome....but on the down side, the 37" military tires SUCK in oregon. Great on the highway but terrible off road.

So memorial day weekend I managed to make it up to TSF for some hardcore action and my first trip in the jimmy, even managed to drag the wife along....dont worry there is some carnage to, but it happened on the way home that night  (I will explain later)

Anyway on to the pics....

Seen this badass porche on the way up.....

And the carnage.....On the way home I started feeling a vibration, kept driving for about a mile and right as I pulled over BOOM, dropped the front driveline, which trashed the t-case, exhaust, and the 600 dollar HAD driveline. Im not sure what caused it, I believe a hub had worked its way into the partially locked position (Ya it was in 2wd and hubs unlocked before I hit the highway, I triple checked like always)

Anyway I ended up leaving it in a nearby town (Banks) and 2 days later i had a truck and trailer to go pick it up. Havnt really had a chance to rip it aprt and check my tranny and t-case out.

What's wrong with the driveshaft? It looks reusable to me.

Martin

There is a bell in between the two U-joints that is blown apart....hopefully its a replacable part, I really wanna reuse this driveshaft for coilovers. I found a killer deal from a shop in my town that will do front 4 link and FOA coilovers plus all the labor for 1700.

I dont know anyone personally, but I have see pictures of the work and it seems legit. I would obviously check out the work myself in person before I hand over the cash.....now if only I can convince the wife the jimmy needs coilovers and new tires!
