Lost noob

Hello everyone. I have a 90 K5 that I want to restore. I have the rear half pretty much down to the frame and Im now moving on to the cab. The pillars (right word?) Are rusted through and im literally lost as to what to do next. I will post a couple pictures of the drivers side and hopefully one of you fine gentlemen can guide me in the next step. Thanks very much for any help I get.

sorry about the double post. I was using phone. I was also wondering about the possibility of just replacing the whole cab at one time....is this even possible?

Yes replacing the cab is possible and would be a good step with that much rot. Sandblast or grind the frame down to bare metal and get some protection on it. POR-15 or some other rest preventative. Take a good look at the frame and make sure it is a foundation worth using.

?thank you sir. so, just take the whole cab off, and get a full replacement? could you please provide a link to where I might get one?

Nobody makes a whole cab. You'll have to find a donor that's in better shape than what you have.

I would look for them in salvage yards in places that don't rust that bad. Grab a truck and trailer and go get you one. There are some people on here that do some hauling of things at times. When you take the cab you have now off, label and bag all the fasteners, wiring, etc. take pics of everything in steps as you do it so it can be put back. You also may want to check with law enforcement or your county clerk where you live as a new cab would give you a new public vin. You may need some inspections. It is wise to look for a cab with a title so you establish ownership of it. May save you from having to post a bond for title.

"nothing a little paint won't fix" Had a guy selling a truck once tell me that..pics just like yours.

lol...yeah, i will just spray paint over it...I should have been more observant when I got the thing....but...I have hours invested in dismantling it...so, at this point, Im still committed. I just have no idea how to remove the cab...lol

With that rust, I doubt removing it will be much fun. The body mount bolts will be a mess.

yeah...i am currently looking for a guide or a diagram that shows where all the body mount bolts are....no luck so far, like I said...I am a super noob at this, but newly retired...have time and the want-to....it would be great if I could find a step by step guide into tearing it down to the frame, and putting it back together again....like.."frame-off restore for dummys"

cool thx man...but for 8500 i could get a pretty much done and badass blazer....I dont mind spending, but its the experience I want....I aint gettin any younger, and I figure restoring a cool 4wd is as good a bucket list item as any other...thanks again for the link....Im gonna cut out the floor boards tomorrow...that and the cab is pretty much all that is left attached to the frame...except the motor of course..

well...I finally got some more work done....I have the engine and transmission out. I plan on taking the motor to a performance shop but have no real idea of what to ask for. My goal is to have a truck I can drive everyday, some highway too, but mess around in the woods and mud a bit too....the current motor is a 350 TBI and I think the transmission is a 400, or th400, something like that...I will verify tomorrow. I guess what Im asking is what are some popular upgrades to the 350. I want to upgrade the exhaust, starter, TBI system. My next question is what do I have to take off, or should take off the motor before I take it over to the shop? Thanks everyone for any help provided.
