Lost noob

so, I have the transmission off and the transfer case off....but....I found two breaks. One on the bellhousing where a bolt goes in...the whole bolt spot broke off, and the other at a similar spot on the other end where the transfer case bolts in. I know its aluminum or some alloy. My question is whether or not there are people who weld these particular spots...or do these breaks mean a new tranny

oops....I looked up and saw that two guys say welding is the way to go...sorry I didnt see that again...im not on here as much as a should be....lol...not even caught up with my own thread. I have been seriously thinking of just buying an engine....If my target was a truck I can drive on the highway, as well as moderate muddy roads/trails, what sort of hp/torque numbers would be best for me?

Good god that's horrible

I guess I'm spoiled, here in the land of little to no rust.

Hard to belive one state away from you

My 89 was almost identical rust wise. I took lots of pics and bagged and tagged everything. Bought a tub that someone had done 95% of the rust repair to and never finished. You would be better off buying a good tub and new fenders, doors, etc. from the several companies that make repro parts for these. Less time and money and headache.

I restored a '90 several years ago. When it comes to the motor, I'd recommend rebuilding your 350 and going FiTech right from the start. I modified my TBI system(FItech and the others were just getting started when I did mine)as recommended by Harris Performance...I did everything he recommended. After two or three custom chips we got it right, but I it takes a lot of detail work and someone who can burn chips and read your ALDL logs. FItech, on the other hand, will get you more TQ and HP, and you can tune it yourself, real time, and all the info you need will be on numerous websites. It took me over a year to get mine dialed in right, my other truck has FI tech and it is so much easier. FItech is good, there are others just as good or better out there. Just make sure you can tune on the fly and get datalogging in real time. Just my two cents. Also, I've got the GM wiring manual for the 90, when you get to electrical, it's all yours, just let me know and I'll get a PDF to you. Also, remember, if you ever want to box your frame in the weak spots, do it now while everything is stripped off. One thing I wish I would have done is box up the front..you're building on old metal, and it's probably fine, I'd just rather know it was strong enough for whatever I do. Enjoy, it's a learning experience!
