Same here, for some reason I was super quiet and just out enjoying the weekend, didn't want a care in the world.

I’m a slacker.... sorry I couldn’t make it this time, but the sign up sheet for the n00bs was already full. :D

But my rig is getting really close to being finished and I’m planning on being another new face next year.

Don't talk about it be about it. Seriously from the first time I have went I haven't missed one sense 2014

Glad I could make it this year! It was fun seeing everyone else there and what their rigs can/can't do. I've got my work cut out for me for next year, but I definitely plan on being there...any chance to move it back to like the end of September/October? I for one wouldn't mind wheeling in much cooler weather.

@Bent77 Thanks once again for putting up with my falling apart rig at the end of hell's. I got it all figured out, but not in time to run any official trails.

I know that the BLM permit deal limits when the even can be held. I'm working with old information but we get to pick from one or two time slots and that is it, one time slot is the weekend after labor day, the other is later in the month. There are problems with each of the weekends, I don't really care which one we do either.

October is traditionally a pretty rainy time so we have moved it earlier to avoid that, but the down fall is heat.

Thanks to those that volunteer, organize, stick around and cleanup after the BBQ etc. It's a pretty big load to take on but Wade and Marc have done a great job.

The permit does provide some changing of date. What they've told me in the past is they don't want to overlap events. As you can imagine, Moab has a lot of events throughout the year so it's hard to find an open weekend.

The first few years were basically the first weekend of October, but as @miniwally mentioned there seemed to be a lot of rain and according to climate data that is one of the higher precipitation months. One year we moved it to about the 3rd weekend of September and the only feedback I got was bitching about how cold it was. So at this point it's just easier to keep it at the weekend following Labor Day.

I think any serious discussion about changing dates would be to try and find dates when kids are out of school. Course the downside there is you're definitely in the hot weather months.

Hot warm was it this year? I remember it being warm last year before but we live in 100+ degree heat so it wasn't that bad to us with our cool towels.

I wasn't as social as years past cause we were over by the antisocial @oatsk5 !

I think the heat was bad because there was very little breeze this year.
@Chevman88 if you want advice it's a pretty good salt lake group man.

Speaking strictly as an envious east coast internet participant...

School is really a tough bump to negotiate. For me, it'd be hard to justify leaving the family behind (kids in school & wife is a teacher) for what could be a "once in a lifetime" trip to such a beautiful place. That said, the event certainly has good turn out now so changing dates may hurt as much as help.

I was just looking at the current temps on weather.com, mid 90's doesn't sound bad but the humidity is nonexistent. I can't imagine what 10% humidity is like, even in the winter ours is ~50%+.

My kids miss three days just for this trip but thats us. I don't fault anybody for not taking kids out of school.

Yeah, when they were younger we pulled them for vacations occasionally and it was no big deal. Now that they're in high school and taking advanced classes it's hard to recover from days missed. We went to Disney World last February, all they missed was 3 days and it took over a week to catch up. My wife is a different problem, as a teacher with summers off she only gets 2 personal days to use during the school year and her principal is tough on sick days.

I'd go by myself but I'd eventually have to participate in the marriage problems thread.

It was 98 degrees at 2:30 as I pulled out of Moab yesterday to head home. Saturday was a bit cooler I would say but only be a few degrees, Friday was similar to Saturday.

The issue is when your in vehicles without AC the interior temps will be 20 degrees or more over ambient air temps at trail speeds. This was the first year my son attended with the sole purpose of riding along, I had to put a jacket in the passenger floor because he was burning his legs on the floor pans (it's just the angle of his shorter legs and the way the floor is built). So Yes it was damn hot, hotter than a snakes ass in a wagon rut, we were doing a little Crotch pot cooking.

I've done Moab in 110 degrees, I won't willingly do it again. I understand that for a few this causes problems and one of the constant issues is kids and school. Like Scott said, that's an issue no matter what you do when the event is in a month that is somewhat ok temps wise. Keep in mind the earlier part of the week it was mid 80's everyday.

I would be totally down with the later in the year deal but I'm from Colorado and went outside this morning and loved every second of the 45 degrees while wearing a short sleeve shirt. I'm a cold person

The kiddo thing was our biggest concern. We had two fans with sprayers pointed at him and he was still pretty hot. At two years old it's a little more concerning for me. Like @miniwally I'm icold weather person and would prefer wheeling in cold weather, however, if things are the best the way they are I don't want to change it, nor will I let it prevent me from coming again. Just need to put AC a little higher on the to-do list.

Yeah, the age of the kids make a big difference. It's easier to get them out of school when they're younger. Before about middle school, I never worried about them missing a couple days. The one in high school hates missing a day of school, let alone having to miss football. I don't mind leaving him behind so much but he's not old enough to drive himself where he needs to be yet which means we have to make arrangements to get him where he needs to be.

Realistically there is no ideal time. If the event was moved to a different month it would just be a different group that could and couldn't make it. I LOVE the crisp air of fall so that would always be my preference.

It was hot this year. But it is what it is. Always gonna be too something for someone.

And schools start so different, if it was before school it would need to be first part of August!
