Low/No Oil Pressure **(not) FIXED!**

while I have the oil drained and the oil pan plug out...is there anything I should do? Like stick a wire brush in there and grope around to see if I can pull anything out? Or....?

I say drop the pan NOW before wasting more oil on this thing. You should NEVER run a cleaner through the engine as it breaks up carbon deposits and sludge (as you've noted) and ends up clogging the oil pick-up screen. Also you would NEVER catch my running Pennzoil either as it likes to sludge up more than any other oil out there for some reason.

Well....call me stumped IT'S FIXED:laugh:. I changed oil, filter, and probed around in there with a coat hanger. Started her up and instant pressure at both the dash gauge and the test gauge. Not sure what happened..I don't feel I accomplished anything with the coat hanger...and how would the filter cause zero pressure? Shouldn't the bypass have opened if the filter was bad and still allowed pressure minus 10psi in the system (minus ten becuase bypass has 10psi differential). I'm happy as a clam...but instead of learning I feel stupider.:doah:I'd love to hear ideas about what could've been going on. (also interesting to note difference between external gauge and dash gauge reading...just goes to show dash gauges shouldn't be trusted for actual pressure)

Glad Paul and Scott jumped in, they are daily wrenchers with a fokton of experience...
So how much oil did you drain out?
Also strain the oil that came out of it, and look for debris that might have been gathered on the pump screen. See if you got any metal in there, even glittery look to the oil.
If you can, cut the filter apart to see what you have in the pleats?
Now that you have oil pressure, peek into your rocker arms now, and you should notice a big difference in oil coming out of the rocker tips...it should be squirting, not just a dribble out of the rocker arm hole (pushrod tip)
