84 k5, using a LS engine out of a 2009 Silverado, AFM deleted. I don't have a transmission yet but I want to use the NP 205 case(10 spline). Im leaning towards a late model 4l60e. Any suggestions as to another choice? What about tranny crossmember? Get an adjustable one?

Couple ideas

Use a factory 09 transmission. The ecm would like that much better

The 10 spline 205 mates to other antique stuff. You’ll have to find an adapter to step down the spline, but would be better off getting away from the 10 spline

Crossmembers are no big deal, if you have a welder

I already have the 205 from original k5 so I was trying to use that to save some money

If you have to stick with the 10 spline 205 you are really limiting your choices to a dump truck sm465 manual. You will have to spend some dough to either update the 205 to a 32 spline input to mate to a newer auto or find a 241c with a 32 spline input.

Or, you could join the dark side:
mate your 205 to a TH400,(still going to require that 32 spline 205 input shaft) while you’re at it grab an old 203 and a doubler kit.
<Stretches out gloved hand>. “Search your feelings…”

No VSS, no electronics, just nice gears made of Iron.

Yes, and don't forget that an electronically controlled transmission will need a vehicle speed signal, so there would be more money spent to do that. Either installing one in the 205 or buying a VSS generator box.

original sm465 manual came in my K5, i dropped it taking off while on the lift. Big chunk broke off so now it sits outside with the rest of the misfit toys

It has happened to the best of us. Atleast it was yours, and not a customer’s :deal:

Lots of good sellable parts in it though. Just saying…

Surprised it didn't just crack the concrete and sit there unscathed lol.

This is not what you want to hear but by trying to use your existing 10-spline 205 is going to end up being a more expensive option - there are far easier and readily available options out there.

Converting your case is doable but not as practical as using a case already capable of mating up shaft length wise and spline count as well as adapter patterns and types.

Consider other cases that will be more user friendly and compatible before you get too far into trying to make the absolute least compatible 205 case work.
It will be lots of effort and money spent in the wrong direction.

Just to make certain of what you have is your 10-spline 205 out originally out of something else because if your ‘84 K5 came with a 465 4-spd it would have been a 32-spline with a NP-208.

Just making certain of what you’re working with before you start trying to gather parts.

My 205 case fell off in traffic at speed. Since I had it down for a rebuild I bought the 32 spline input, then saw that it was going to be relatively easy to adapt in a doubler at that point, plus, that’s what I wanted.
I scored my 32 spline input from the for sale section here on CK5, I was super lucky to get it.place a “wanted” ad in the buy and sell section here. You might get lucky.

You still need to pay for machining.
That alone could pay for newer tcase

Not lots of good choices for passenger drop in the junkyard used parts world. Machining a 205 for a big bearing and VSS is still probably cheaper than trying to get a 241C, if you can even find one. Even if you find one it should probably get a SYE which adds more money. A 208 has its own issues and also should get a SYE. A 205 is pretty easy to rebuild, you can FedEx an empty case out for the machine work easily and quickly these days.

I run the dump truck trans. Works fine. They are almost free, same with the 10 spline 205. Also 6.55 first gear does a lot to make up for 1.96 in the t-case.
