LS swap, ECM and wiring ??

Those 8.1L are known to be very long lasting engines, if they make it past the first 50k. You'll probably be good to go for a lot more miles than that before it requires an overhaul.

There is some awesome tech in that thread! There is also tech not in it that isn't easy to come by. The tuning side and overall potential of the 8.1. Yeah yeah, a lot of places claim the tuning is turning off codes and tq management. That's cool but that's not a tune. After KOH I am doing the swap shown above. I'll start a thread on it, show the basic swap.... If you guys want, I'll get heavy on the tuning side. Just let me know. Its not getting a cam but I can get into cam tuning. I saw issues in other 8.1 threads with cams.... That's an easy fix.

Feel free to add any solid factual contributions to the 8.1L Resource Thread you may have. I think we all want to see CK5 own the best and most factual 8.1L information anywhere on the interwebs. Believe me when I say this….I DO NOT know everything about the 8.1L and hope I don’t portray that I do, but I feel I have more real world experience with them than the average bear due to my job and hobby.

Hehe, I had to chuckle at some of the 8.1L BS I just recently read on Pirate. Adam Dueling tried to steer the thread to CK5 but we all know, redirecting topics to other forums is heavily frowned upon on pirate. Some stupid misconceptions out in the world regarding the 8.1L.

You’re correct, there isn’t a lot of tuning info in the 8.1L resource thread as I personally am not a tuner geek type of guy. Sure wish I had time to become one though. One thing I’ve noticed over the years is just about every tuner I’ve ran across seems to think they are better than the next guy. Lots of ego stroking going in the tuning world to go around. So far, I don’t think I’ve really met the Chuck Norris of the tuning world but I sure have spoken and traded correspondence with plenty who think they are.

I’m looking forward to your L18 project and I feel we could use a person with your talents and experience to further all of our L18 knowledge base and harness choice. Feel free to reach out to me for anything I can contribute to your project. As you may be aware, I came from GM to Workhorse where Workhorse consumed just as many L18’s than GM did from 2001 to 2011. We offered Workhorse products with warranties from 3/36 to 5/100 and even higher for some customers. With that, we gathered and analyzed tons of warranty data on the L18 platform and never saw any major issues with the L18 outside of small trends from year to year due to supplier quality issues, etc. Hence, 2007-2009 oil pump drive shafts, early crank sensors, etc. Definitely a much cleaner engine from a warranty stand point than a Duramax or International V8 (PowerJoke) diesel and even the beloved Gen III 4.8 and 6.0L (we did not use the 5.3L at Workhorse).
