Anyone ever modded a power steering pump from a 4.8, 5.3 or 6.0 to get more pressure and volume? i just added a hydro assist and it doesn't seem to be working like it should be. I've read a couple write ups on bleeding them and i believe its bled correctly. Maybe the pumps are the same concept as the gen 1 and 2 sbc? :dunno:

Thank you in advance.

It's interesting that you're posting this. I'm putting a 6L in my 87 that currently has a PSC PS pump. As I was putting the final touches on the motor today, ahead of next weeks install, I was curious if the factory pump that came with my motor (2003 Van) is built to handle the extra needs of my Blazer? Maybe I'll call PSC and see if they make a pump that will bolt up to my factory LS brackets... I'm sure they do.

Yes PSC does make power steering pump upgrade fir a lsx, it's on their web site.

I am not a fan of increasing the pressure output of the pumps, but I do always increase the flow rate on mine (remove the 1"(?) hex that the output line threads in to, drill out to 5/32"(?), and notch the end). I have done the same thing on a couple jeep pumps. Seems like all the pumps I've ever looked at were pretty similar in design, and it only takes a minute to pull that fitting and investigate.

We have 3, 15 passenger vans here at work with 6 liters and they all have hydroboost brakes so i would assume that the pumps would flow good enough. According to our all data the truck pumps (including vans) all have about 1500 psi with 3.0-3.5 gmp. You would think this would be good enough for a hydro assist. The ingine i swapped only had 36,000 miles on it at the time of the swap. It might have 40,000 now, so im assuming the pump isnt bad. I might go ahead and swap pumps out anyway for an escalade pump. All data say they put out 1500 psi and 3.5-4.0 gpm.

I believe that all of the Gm truck motors in the "LSX" format, have the GM P pump. Meaning that it's the same pump that GM has been putting on trucks for years.

PSC has modded pumps available.

The pump that I have on my 5.3 is a p-pump style, it is the same as the pumps that have come on these trucks for years, I was even able to take the flare style fitting and put it in my 5.3 pump so i could run the old style lines. Also the same pump is used for hydroboost applications and is just a different setup with the pressure relief spring.

GM trucks have used virtually the same pump from '67 to current, just some minor changes like o-ring/flare fitting hoses etc.

LS motors in cars use TC pumps which are generally less desirable because they flow less.
