alright my power steering box has devoloped a leak around the output shaft (i think thats were its coming from)...i bought 2 bottles of lucas stop leak to see if that fixes the leak...one last attempt...there lable calims "fixes leaks or a money back garantee"...hope fully it works at 10 bucks a bottle...we will find out in a few...

Just replace the box. I just had to in the plow truck. There is a thread I started in here about the leak. It cost me $140 total after tax for the new box. (the core was $160)

im giving one last attempt...i just added a bottle sprayed everything down with brake clean and worked the wheel for about 2 min...no leaks yet im letting the truck run right now to see what happens...

Good luck! Mine was leaking out as fast as you could put it in! LOL. I went Through about a gal. and a half of fluid plowing for 5 hours.

whered you get a box for $140

my steering box had a little tiny leak till today. on the way home it got worse and started dripping faster. i tried a bottle of the lucus stuff in one last attempt and it did not stop leaking. its coming out at where the steering shaft connects and i just dont know if its worth trying to just put in new seals or buy a reman. unit. the cheapest one i have found is $162.00 at advance.

Advance was more expensive, but cheaper core, and not in stock.

i checked autozone today and their price was $ 154.40 after core. but the closest one is about 25 miles away from me. as i said previously advance
is $ 162..00 and they are just down the street. i might try a used one before
i buy new, but do i want to go through all that labor especially if the used one goes out two days later.

I even think it was $140 including two bottles of fluid too. I couldn't beleive the price. Advance didn't have it like I said. So all I know is the price they told me on the phone. I have a commercial Ac. at advance, but not Autozone.

i work for oreilly auto parts and our store has the steering gear box for $154.99 with $100.00 core charge...if not in stock can have it there the next day with lifetime warranty :wink1:

Lifetime:thinking: I only got a year! I would have payed extra for that. It's on the beater work truck.

alright i just took a 5 mile drive were my fenderwell and frame would useually be covered in p/s fluild...no leaks...i couldnt belive my eyes...i dunno if it will how long it will hold up...but it does say on there lable could require 2 bottles...i could only fit one...i will carry the second as a spare that i will hopefully never use...i still cant belive...i think im a beliver now...

hey anything is better than it was okay...like i said if it start leaking again i got another bottle and hey if it saves 6 months then it was worth it...

I use lucas oils in all my vehicles except my motorcycle seems to be working for me.

I used it in transfer cases steering manual trannies and their oil additive.

I hear ya. I would have done the same, but the old man uses my plow truck for work. I didn't want it to break in the middle of a job. If it was the k5, I'd dump 6 bottles in or untill I intalled crossover steering.

Next time it starts leaking, I doubt more will help.

I'm a firm believer that in some cases that stops leak stuff will work, (it did on my PS pump and hydraulic bottle jack) but it softens/swells the seals, and if THAT fails, there's nothing to do but reseal or replace.
