lucas....good product??we will find out in a few minutes

yeah just a little though...good tempoary fix for my box...i was leaking all the fluid out in about 30 mins of run time...i havent refilled it since then and when i do i got another quart to go in they say you might need to use 2...i give it a thumbs up!!

i need to replace my rear main seal, i poured a quart of the lucas rear main seal stop leak, and it only drops 1 drop every time i go somewhere, instead of a puddle like before. the transmission stop slip stuff works wonders as well! great stuff!

my buddy had bad rings in his truck..would burn oil horribly so he started putting 80w90 gear oil in it..lasted a few months...new motor in it now..

I run lucas gear oil additive in my 80's SM465. That transmission is insanely quiet, I literally cannot hear the syncros, or any gear whine with it...

I like what I'm hearing. I may have to "Lucas" my truck this weekend. The thing runs like a top but leaks in a couple of spots. Nothing major, though. Sounds like (hopefully) the Lucas additives will clean things right up.

lucas is great stuff, but why would you replace a whole box when you get put a $10 seal in easily and call it good? if its the bottom one, take off the pitman arm, remove the snapring, crank the truck and turn to the left hard for a second. seal comes out automatically. easy to reassemble. the top one is the same way if you crank the steering all the way to the right.

You know I was just looking for something like this, Thanks Abunch! I have two bottle of the Lucas in mine now and it considerably slowed the leak down on the power steering pump, it still leaks a little.
Looks like it is time for a seal kit, and thanks again for the advise k204dr.

I just got done replacing my steering box. In response to k204dr, I swapped it out instead of just the seal beacuse I read on here that a few folks have tried to just replace the seal and ultimately ended up switching the box. I figure my times worth something too and it's not too much harder to pull the box....might as well get it fixed right one time while I'm at it. BTW, it was $160 at Advance.

Good to hear about the Lucas stuff.

Yeah, hes right. I tried to just replace the front seal on the box, but I think that there might be a 4 year school required to know how to do it, so after destroying a $60 seal kit from the stealership, I wound up putting a box out of my 78 in my 82. But good luck though.

The stop leak is only a band-aid, as Dorian said all it does is infect the seals and make them expand. They will stay expanded for a while, but not indefinantly. Figure on a new box in a few months.

Lucas is just alright IMHO, it's not that great of stuff, and there is better out there. Their fuel additives suck IMHO.

Lucas has a great advertising department...... They must have hired some people that worked for K&N.....

whats wrong with K&N?? i think they are great as long as ur not offroading, for road use only they are great

never added it to the power steering box but I once added a bottle of the transmission fluid to a tranny that was pouring it out the front seal like there was no seal at all. never leaked again.

also just added a bottle to a tranny that was slipping real bad. it was low on fluid so I know that was part of the cause but now it moves and shifts fine:D

Ouch, was it a complete seal kit for the box? I just payed $7 for a input shaft seal kit the other day. and it was like $10 for the output shaft seal on my scout a few months ago. its not for everyone though. takes some knowledge and lots of patience to do I guess.

K&N is great, they bring in plenty of air vs. a stock filter.... but personally if I was going to run a K&N I think I would just save some money and just remove the filter completely and get the same air flow and filtration.....

If you want to debate K&N filters, there's plenty of threads that can be ressurected... :D .

Back to this steering box seal discussion... I plan on going to crossover steering before to long, so I don't want to blow the money on a new 4wd steering box, what's the input seal kit part # and name brand? Mine's on an '89 K5 so it might be different but this will give me some where to start.
