I'm kind of a pack rat. 2 years ago I sold a car with an Alpine head unit but forgot to send the remote with the new owner. About a month ago I came across the remote and almost threw it away thinking that I'll never need it. But I thought, maybe I'll put it on ebay someday and get a few bucks, so I packed it away.
The 91 Jimmy I picked up has an Alpine head unit and I sit far enough back that changing the stations or volume is a PITA because I have to reach forward.
Then a lightbulb went off. I remembered I had that old remote. Lucky me, it's compatible and now I don't have to reach out to change the station. Pure Laziness.
The moral of the story is, don't throw anything away. Maybe you can use it someday.
