Luv, or 4 Runner?

Please don't get him started. I'll try and keep him away from this post.:ignore:

MWA-HA-HA-HA-HA! You think he's the only LUV addict here?! :D

I owned a '79 LUV when I was a teenager and I adored it. Ofcourse, I couldn't say much about the Isuzu engine. First thing I did to it when I got it was drop in a 350sbc/TH350 and 12-bolt rear w/ 11" tires. The thing was a rocket.

however my friend had a '80 LUV with the Isuzu motor and he completely abused the little thing. Ran it without oil for months and it never quit on him. So they seem to be pretty sturdy little engines.

They'll take care of you! :D

I really appreciate all the help guys, and it looks like I'm going the way of the Yota. I can't pass up the removeable top!

Ha! Found this vehicle description for a 4runner on ebay. Kind of long, but funny. There are no pics, and it's listed as a "Mechanic's Special."

This is a running Toyota 4Runner except that I was working on the Radiator to fix the over heating and I got too pissed off and quit. I already changed the Water Pump, Thermostat, some sensors, timing belt, muffler, but don't have enough time in a day to complete the job. It's a 4 cylinder and very good on gas. I took the radiator off, and it's in the back of the car. But that's it...I can't take it no more. My viagra doesn't work on cars. She was a very reliable car, never left me stranded, and kept me good company. The car is parked in my building lot in the "BRONX" and she is ready to be picked up. I'll be very sad to see her go, but she needs a better lover than me. Someone who will tend to her, give her some tender loving care, clean her up and show her that you care. Someone just asked if I could send them some pictures? I don't want to go through this madness of taking pictures, developing, uploading and paying more for adding pictures in EBay. Let's do this...Close your eyes, it's a nice sunny day, envision that you're standing in front of a Black 1987 Toyota 4Runner, you put your hand on her front end, and tell her that you won't hurt her. And as you walk around her beautiful black body, you lovingly touch her in those sensitive areas which are important to you- her curves, her bumpers, her perfect windshield, her electric door windows and locks, her side windows, her rear electric window, cruise control. AM/FM Cassette player, electric power antenna, her electronically controled door mirrors, her electronically controlled sliding glass moon roof, and when you see that she has no body damage, you enter her body, as deep as your desires will allow. You tenderly touch her gray seats as she permits you to explore her as no one else has ever done. You turn the key ignition, with the hope that with your foreplay that she'll turn on, and she does. She is so turned on, and is so overwhelmed with excitement that she will go with you where ever you want. But she needs a "Radiator Transplant" in order to survive and keep up with your pace. She is here waiting with the anticipation that you will satisfy her minor needs. And once you do that, she'll be yours forever. This is a great economical car/SUV. If you have the time/energy and desire to finish up the job I started, I'm sure you'll be glad you purchased this car. As I said, the condition of this car is good in terms of body. I recently had it painted from "RED to BLACK.". All of the paper work from DMV have been done, and she already "passed Inspection". She awaits your approval. If anything else, give me a call 1.347.236-8152. Bronx, NY.

Deffinately the Toy. I had an 86 4Runner and that thing ran no matter what.
Make sure you test drive it though, hit 5th gear and listen close. Those manual trannies are famous for blowing out 5th gear. That happened in mine but I was able to find a replacement from someone parting out their rollover.
I believe the two manual trannies are W56 and G52. Both are interchangable, but you may have to trim some sheetmetal if going to a G52. Also note, they are a high theft vehicle. That's how I lost mine. I did get it back (after I bought another truck) but it seemed a little weak in the motor. Turned out the head had 16 cracks in it and the damn thing still ran (just weak). That's a 22r motor for you...

Scott

the 22r and re motors are not 2.2L, they are 2.4, which doesnt sound like much, but its still missinformation.

My fault, sorry...it was late and that was what popped into my head...should have looked it up before I posted

I'd lay odds thats a blown head gasket and not a radiator problem.

The Toyota's were good trucks, all the ones my friends had were beaten mercilessly even before they bought them, all had well over 150,000 miles when they got them--the only weak spot on them were the head gasket problems on the 3.0 V6 as already mentioned, and the 5 speed tranny's had problems with synchros and popping out of gear on one truck--and good luck finding a tranny in a boneyard for reasonable money--that is the main reason I've never owned one yet--parts are kinda scarce and costly when you need them....

Not the syncros at all. Its bad bearings. The front input bearing is bad about failing. It allows the clusters to shift foward when under torque and pop out of gear or not engage gear at all if bad enough. Its what creates the whine and growel you hear in high mile Toy trannys. I just rebuilt the one in my 86 for this exact problem. $200 in parts and that included syncors but none were bad. I bought the parts ata alocal shop but www.marlincrawler.com also sells the parts.

I say yota as well. I know a couple yota types, and they beat the everloving piss out of em. One guy has an 81, and it's a stout little truck, but it's carbureted and has fuel delivery issues on angles, but he beats the hell out of it and it comes back for more. The other two that I know are late models, but they're about indestructible as well (except for when the 98 broke a ball joint driving down the road, but I think that had to do with poor maintenance and a LOT of abuse).

I FOUND IT MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

Well if your looking for lots of aftermarket then the 4runner is the way to go. But dont sell the little 'Zus short. Allan has seen what mine is capable of and it is a VARY well built truck and will go where my brother 86 yota cant. Guys running set ups identical too mine have had dyno pulls up to 200hp. The only reason i wouldnt go for the LUV (and why i am selling mine) is how hard parts are to find and how expensive they are. I have to order most of mine direct fron Isuzu Light Truck in Thialand. But honestly i would probly go for the yota.

Oh and Grim Isuzu is only 12% owned by GM. They signed a 4billion dollar contract whith Mazda to produce commercial truck motors foir them and whith that money and the money they made selling thier half of the Layfeate Indianna Subaru Isuzu plant they have been byuing thier stock back fron Gm so they can Impulses again (GM shut them, down becouse they outerperfmed the F-bodies had better econimy than the Cavies and out slold all thier compact and mid sized cars combined in 90-91).
