m1008 6.2 into a 1985 K5 blazer gasser

The main difference between the 700R4 and TH400 torque converters is the lockup feature. That is not available on a TH400, but required on the 700R4. You will also need the diesel version torque converter with the 6 flexplate bolts.

I helping a friend to install a humvee 6.2 into his truck as replacement for 6.2 a friend of his overheated the hell out of (locked up bad). No problem with migrating manifolds, etc., to "new" motor, but right angled oil filter is a problem as it gets in the way of the TH400 shift linkage. Anyone know if it's simply a matter of removing the right angle "adapter" (looks like it bolts up into what may be a standard filter seat) or is this more involved? Just checking to see if anyone else has had to address this. John

You need to swap the IP solenoid as well since the HMMV is 24V and the CUCV and civilian trucks are 12V.

I would guess the right angle piece is an adapter that bolts on. You can then bolt on the adapter from the old motor in its place.

Thanks, kennyw. I'll get further into the fuel filter mount and post what I find.
Also, I've swapped out the entire fuel pump assembly from the old engine onto the "new" one, hoping the old IP and fuel pump are okay (I'll find out). I hadn't thought of that solenoid, will keep it in mind if I have to use the pump off of the humvee motor. John

The solenoid is inside of the IP, so you want to take care if you end up swapping them.

I need a TV cable BRACKET off of a 6.2 diesel with a 700r4. Anyone have one or know where I can get one? It's the only thing holding me back on my project.

I don't remember if I pulled the bracket off of my motor when I swapped in the TH400... I can check this weekend.

OH and I assume I should be able to use the same gas tank that my truck has on it now, but I thought I would ask to make sure...

Yes, just need to get rid of the gas in it obviously.

Still looking for a TV cable bracket. Everyone keep your eye out for one for me :)

Hey are you still looking for this bracket? I'm doing the opposite from you, I've got a 6.2 that was with a 700r4, that will be going with a th400. Still have the newish-looking TC too, but it weighs a ton. Trade ya the TV bracket you need for the 700r4 for the vacuum modulator thingus I need for my th400 (ok someone who actually knows what they're talking about chime in here:doah:)

Unfortunately I'm not sure I can get that because the person I got all this stuff from is keeping his th400. If it is bolted to the motor somewhere I should have it because he may not have taken it off, but if its somewhere bolted to the firewall/fenderwell/etc I may not have it. Just let me know what it is exactly and I'll check asap.

I think it's somewhere on the motor but that's why I need someone else to chime in here, as I'm still figuring out what bits do what on this engine and what's needed for the swap.

Oh, ok. I am interested in the torque converter as well, so hopefully we can work something out.

The TC is yours if you want it, very clean as is the tranny so I'm guessing it's fairly new. But the sucker is HEAVY. Might not be worth the shipping cost.

Someone mentioned you can cram it into one of those 15 dollar to anywhere one size post office boxes or something. I'll check into it more.

Y'know I think that just might work. I might even have the right sized USPS box!

The vacuum switch your looking for is mounted to the side of the IP in the same place that the throttle position switch for disengaging the torque converter lockup is at on the 700R4 version. It is on the left side of the IP looking at the motor from the front, towards the back of the vehicle. However, I have yet to find a used vacuum switch that is functional. They are about $120 new at the dealer and available as of a year ago when I switched my truck over from a 700R4 to a TH400.

Shipping a used torque converter is going to be a PITA. You need to get all of the fluid out of it or the post office won't be happy with it leaking.
