I'm looking for a full size blazer. There is a m1009 military blazer for sale. What is the difference between them and a regular k5?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I know:

-Military blazers have a 24volt dual battery system vs civilian's that have 12volt dual batt systems
-interiors are pretty bare, no carpet, no a/c, no vents in the dash, no power windows, no radio (unless otherwise installed)
-come with th400 transmission (no overdrive), civy blazers usually have 700R4 trans which has overdrive=better fuel mileage
-I believe the m1009s have more power, j-code intake, etc.
-not sure, but the gearing may be beefier on the m1009 axles, you'd have to search around
-you get the coolness of a military blazer (gun racks, grille guards, tow hooks, camo)

mil m1009s got 3.08 gears and 10 bolts, not desirable at all, and if you think they are, ill sell ya the ones from my 86 k5 :waytogo:

DK5 is mostly right.

J-code 6.2, which some civvy Blazers had. Few more HP IIRC. Fed smog so exempt even in area where diesels are smogged.

TH400, which no civvy Blazer ever had (only on 3/4 and 1-tons otherwise.)

3.08:1 gears which give great freeway mileage and SUCK going up hills. Gov-loc in the back.

No AC, no carpet, no power anything, heinously convoluted half-12 half-24 volt electrical system with dual alternators with floating grounds which will drive you insane.

Otherwise they are stock 1984 Blazers (even the 85+ CUCV's use 1984 parts, i.e. wiper motors.)

Can you tell I owned one? Great fun, ended up selling it 'cuz I had three Blazers.

Are you going to build a rig or use it for a daily driver???

A regular Blazer in good shape will be a lot more comfortable...

Where as, a military Blazer would be easier for tear down/build...

Im going to use the truck as a daily driver and wheel it on the weekends

So by the sounds of it a m1009 is nothing special other then the fact its from the military. Thanks
