Magik's 1987 Jimmy - Jiminy

I got my gas tank primed today.

I spent time yesterday and today scraping, chiseling, wire brushing and using a wire wheel to clean rust and debris off my frame. I got the outside of the frame from the cab to the bumper and the inside of the frame in the gas tank compartment including the cross members done. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the rest of my frame is solid.

Good deal. Rest of the frame does look pretty solid. I wonder why that one section really went to crap.

Gonna coat it with anything?

My k20 rotted out like that, I think salt n stuff gets trapped in behind the spring hanger. If not cleaned it'll just rot.

Looking good btw!!

There were plastic edge guards on the frame in that area that helped trap water. That is also the area where my body mount and floor collapsed probably funneling water to the frame.

I am going to coat it with Chassis Saver.

I installed the sending unit / fuel pump then got the gas tank positioned. Tomorrow I will install the fuel lines and mounting straps.

I mounted the gas tank, connected the fuel lines and wires, added 10 gallons of gas then started Jiminy. I can also fill any flat space in no time at all.

Today I cleaned up the frame wiring and fuel lines. I remounted my exhaust pipes, covered the 6 open inspection holes in my rear brakes with rubber plugs and filled the rear differential with Lucas gear oil. Then I started Jiminy just to hear it run.

I had Jiminy out in the woods this morning breaking trails. Jiminy is much more responsive since I changed the front calipers.

That's a nice rig you got there Magik! Good ground clearance, but short wheel base to boot.
That was my goal when I bought the Jimmy. It is wider than I would like for manuevering in the woods. One of these days I will narrow the front and back.

Jiminy was out in the woods today. The snow was so slippery I slid into a tree going down the trail we call Twister. I dented the door and I don't like dents.
